Job Description:

At Watermark, we partner with institutions of higher education to improve student learning and institutional quality with proven, reliable, and user-friendly assessment management and e-portfolio solutions and supporting services. Watermark is a recognized leader in student assessment, portfolio and accreditation. We serve over 1,700 institutions and close to a million students across the country.

Watermark is looking for a Copywriter to help us create content that supports marketing programs. This person will create and edit copy that speaks to higher education administrators, who are our core clients and prospects. The ideal client has experience writing for this audience.

This role requires experience writing for blogs, demand-gen emails, email streams for sales, website copy, ebooks, case studies, press releases, and internal communications. Experience in SEO, creating and sharing brand and voice standards, and higher education preferred.

This role requires excellent writing skills, the ability to write quickly, juggle multiple projects at once, strong attention to detail, and copyediting. You should also be curious, constantly think about how you and the team can operate creatively and efficiently, know your way around an Oxford comma, and have a strong opinion about em-dashes vs. en-dashes.

The position requires excellent communication skills, collaboration, curiosity, and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. You must be comfortable with ambiguity, an independent thinker, and able to get things done.

This role reports to the Sr. Manager, Content Marketing. Writing samples and/or a link to your writing portfolio are required upon applying for this position.

What you will be doing:


  • Plan and execute series of content, including blogs, email nurture, sales cadences, ebooks, product flyers, and more


  • Review existing case studies and update or rewrite based on new messaging, best practices


  • Audit all existing content and work collaboratively to remove outdated content, recommend new content, and identify gaps where we need more content


  • Write compelling emails, webinar content, and papers that will help drive awareness and consideration of our products


  • Write to improve conversion rates, via email, website, Chatbot, etc.


  • Interview clients, internal team members, industry experts, etc., for blogs, case studies, and other assets


  • Help write speeches, webinars, and other external presentations


  • Write press releases, internal communications, product information, website copy as needed


  • Write ongoing newsletters, digests, etc.


  • Report on the impact of content



Expected skills and experience:


  • 2+ years B2B copywriting experience. Preferred experience in higher education institutions, edtech companies that serve higher education, or a higher-ed adjacent association or organization preferred but not required


  • Strong written communication skills, across multiple types of content projects listed above


  • Experience with style guides and documenting preferred voice, grammatical rules and standards


  • Consistency in voice across all platforms


  • Personable, collaborative, and accommodating, especially when working with clients


  • Strong organizational and project management skills and the ability to manage multiple projects at the same time


  • Ability to learn new concepts quickly


  • Ability to operate independently and solve problems efficiently


  • Familiarity with Google Suite including G-Mail; Asana or Smartsheet, Slack, and other similar or related tools.


  • Experience working in fast-paced, high growth environments, comfortable with ambiguity


  • Team player attitude with the ability to interact with sales, marketing, product, and client-facing stakeholders as well as our clients.



About the Marketing Team:

We’re a team of demand generation-focused marketers facing a huge opportunity to sell new products into an established customer base and expand to new accounts. The higher education market needs our products, and the government is helping fund their transition to digital enablement.
