Responsibilities


  • Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with academic Editors, Editorial Boards, society executives and other key contacts in the field, with the aim of building and maintaining the journals’ reputation and increasing submissions.

  • Build knowledge of the field and the relevant scientific communities to identify development opportunities and translate them into actions to maintain a competitive advantage. This will involve engaging with senior scientists and obtaining their advice.

  • Produce and implement journal development plans for the journals.

  • Work with members of the Medicine & Life Sciences team to acquire new journals in this area

  • Monitor peer-review performance for the portfolio and assist colleagues in dealing with author queries or problem manuscripts.

  • Plan and drive the commissioning of content including pro-actively suggesting topics

  • Support the management of the journals by being the primary contact for Editors and handling contract renewals

  • Ensure the journals are promoted through all relevant avenues

  • Organize and host Editorial Board meetings

  • Represent the company at scientific conferences when required to improve market knowledge, to network within the community, receive feedback on the journals and to promote Springer Nature journals and open access

Required Skills, Qualification and Experience 


  • Educated to degree level

  • Interest and understanding of publishing business models (subscription, hybrid, open access)

  • Proven knowledge of publishing process and related matters

  • Highly customer focused

  • Proven administrative skills

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Excellent influencing skills

  • Excellent critical appraisal and problem solving skills

  • Takes ownership to drive and complete tasks

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines consistently

  • Ability to adapt quickly to change

  • Strong attention to detail/high accuracy

  • Proven high level of computer literacy

Desirable


  • Previous experience working in a similar publishing role on journals, with a developed knowledge of the field, is desired.

Required Background


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent required; minimum 4 years' experience in related editorial capacity; must be well-organized and attentive-to-detail, hands-on-knowledge of personal computers strongly preferred.
