Plans and performs a number of operations connected with tear down, evaluation, assembly and testing of a variety of special subassemblies including spindles and rotary tables involving a considerable number of details requiring a high degree of skill and accuracy to maintain close tolerances in alignment, fit and clearance to meet exacting, operating specifications of special machinery.
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Tear down and re-assemble Precision Spindle and Rotary Table assemblies on floor or bench in a controlled environment. Fit, adjust, align parts and test as necessary
Analyze parts after tear down to determine which parts can be re-used and develop a list of new parts required. Follow proper rebuild procedures to re-assembly to like new condition.
Have basic machining skills including milling, drilling and surface grinding
Perform final test operations on assemblies following specifications presented by others and using very technical test equipment
Report unusual conditions or engineering errors to the leader or supervisor.
May assist in training apprentices.
Perform related duties as required.
Adheres to quality, customs, foreign trade zone and environmental processes and procedures.
Shares ideas about process improvements and other cost saving measures with management.

Qualifications:

Education:
Skilled trade certification as Toolmaker/Machine Builder or comparable trade; or comparable work experience in the metal cutting machine tools industry.
Must have mechanical aptitude. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Good working knowledge of machine shop tools, concepts, and practices. Ability to read and interpret blueprints. Will be required to travel to Germany for initial training and possibly other training as new products are developed. May be required to work at customer sites.

Peripheral vision is required for safety purposes, and depth perception is needed to set tooling on the machine and to focus adjustments for the tool setting.
