The institutional review board (IRB) compliance administrator I, under general supervision, administers basic protocol activities, such as submissions, reports, renewals, and revisions for the IRB. The IRB conducts review and approval of research that involves human participants. This position provides support to all aspects of workflow and administrative program support for the IRB.
The Office of Sponsored Research (SPARC) seeks an individual who is comfortable collaborating with faculty and administrators, communicating federal and university requirements to university stakeholders, assisting in program and policy development in response to government agency updates, and handling multiple projects with competing deadlines.
Essential Functions
Administers protocol activities, including notifications and verification of compliance with Rice's policies and procedures
Processes less complex protocol activities, including routine submission, reports and revisions
Assists in processing comments, coordinating review, and distributing investigator responses
Assists users of the protocol systems, working with both internal and external groups on improving user experience
Ensures complete documentation is included in protocol application
Administers electronic protocol files for internal and external audits in accordance with regulatory requirements and Rice's policies and procedures
Coordinates meeting logistics, including compliance review and follow-up activities; may attend meetings and record meeting outcomes
Performs all other duties as assigned
Additional Functions
Assists with development and maintenance of electronic protocol databases and program websites
Works with direct supervisor to identify best practices for business processes and identify issues for review and resolution
Schedules compliance meetings and distributes agendas and other meeting materials
Maintains IRB training records for compliance activities in SPARC
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
1 year of the following experience : 'Familiarity with IRB (Institutional Review Board) and applicable federal and state regulations, policies and procedures for human subjects research.'
Computer skills and understanding of databases
Verbal and written communication skills
Organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in social science, natural science, or engineering field
