Manager, Axle Product Engineering at Dana Limited

Job Description:

Dana is a global leader in the supply of highly engineered driveline, sealing, and thermal-management technologies that improve the efficiency and performance of vehicles with both conventional and alternative-energy powertrains. Serving three primary markets – passenger vehicle, commercial truck, and off-highway equipment – Dana provides the world's original-equipment manufacturers and the aftermarket with local product and service support through a network of nearly 100 engineering, manufacturing, and distribution facilities.

The Manager of Product Engineering is responsible for leading a team of engineers with responsibility in light axle development. 

Product Engineering’s mission statement:  Optimally develop, maintain, and adapt axle products balancing performance, quality, cost, and timeliness for OEMs, Dana plants, Applications Engineering, and Purchasing.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

Primary Duties:


  • Empowers team members to own their products, maintain a balance of robustness, timeliness, and cost sensitivity, and push for continuous improvement.

  • Involved in all aspects of product design, from concept initiation through manufacturing optimization.

  • Proposes and critiques design concepts.

  • Provides key input to product sizing during the design review process.

  • Develops strategies around test and development standards and programs for components.

  • Provides optimization input for component redesign.

  • Identifies and implements needed generic component and assembly DFMEA’s for new/unique/novel components and axle systems.

  • Leads efforts to reduce complexity and rationalize products.

  • Effectively promote and maintain design integrity.

  • Build strong relationships with teams responsible for product design, test, development, inspection, and manufacture.

  • Lead problem solving efforts in product-related instances using a structured approach, and convergent method. 

  • Implements engineering changes to improve robustness, efficiency, and/or cost.

  • Evaluate and processes manufacturing and engineering deviations and change requests.

  • Continue to co-develop and maintain strong commodity strategy between purchasing and engineering. 

Qualifications Desired:


  • Four-year degree in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) preferred. Consideration may be given to candidates with other engineering degrees with strong experience in product design.

  • 5+ years drivetrain experience with strong background in design or manufacture of axle components and assemblies.

  • Excellent mechanical aptitude, along with strong analytical capability.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to build relationships and work with people at all levels within Dana in a professional manner.

  • Preferred experience with mechatronic systems. Specifically, park-lock, disconnecting driveline systems.

  • Must understand the strong relationship between requirements, development, manufacturability, and validation, and the cost of (good & bad) quality.


  • Must have strong project management/follow-up skills in order to organize multiple responsibilities and meet multiple deadlines.

  • Proficient in written and oral communication; MS Office Suite,


  • Must be self-directed and motivated individual who takes ownership, inspires others, and values teamwork.

  • Must be willing to travel globally and able to work excess hours when necessary.
