Job Description:

Partnerships to Uplift Communities (also known as PUC Schools) is comprised of a non-profit network of public charter schools designed to significantly increase high school graduation rates, college entrance and college graduation rates for underserved students in North East Los Angeles and the San Fernando Valley.

Our mission at PUC Schools is to develop and manage high quality charter schools in densely populated urban communities with overcrowded and low achieving schools. We create school programs and cultures that promote college graduation for all students. We uplift and revitalize communities through the development of educational and other supportive partnerships.

Job Purpose

The ideal Dean of Academics believes in, and is passionate about the mission and commitments of PUC Schools and exhibits this through their leadership, reflection, execution of school culture and collaboration to ensure student success.  This role will support the Administrative Team by implementing and supervising in a fair and consistent manner, effective behavior management system with high standards, consistent with the philosophy, values, and mission of the school and organization, in accordance with due process, as well as laws and regulations.

Essential Duties and responsibilities, listed but not limited, below:


  • Manage and support all attendance matters and ensure the procedures are in compliance with district and PUC policies

  • Manage and coordinate FST meetings; co-facilitate with support from Instructional Leader

  • Attend IEP meetings as needed

  • Manage Peer Counseling / Mentoring program. (Peer mediation, mentoring, etc.)

  • Partner with teachers, staff, parents and leaders to develop and implement a school-wide plan for creating a positive culture of behavior in the school

  • Collaborate with the clinical counselor to ensure all student needs are being met

  • Display the highest ethical and professional behavior and standards when working with students, parents, school personnel, and agencies associated with the school

  • Meet with parents regarding student discipline and behavior issues.

  • Ensures a safe, orderly environment that encourages students to take responsibility for behavior

  • Provide supervision support

  • Coordinate student field trips and events

  • Collaborate with students to coordinate school events such as dances, fund raisers, etc.

  • Maintain positive, cooperative, and mutually supportive relationships with the central administration, parents, and representatives of resource agencies within the community

  • Regular attendance, dependability and punctuality in conformance with the standards is essential to the successful performance of this position

Experience, Education & Skills Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s Degree required

  • Master’s Degree and Administrative Credential preferred

  • 3-5 years of related experience

  • Administrative experience preferred

  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

  • Great customer service skills, ability to multi-task and team player

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills

  • Results oriented, data driven with proven leadership skills

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job Occasionally required to kneel, climb and reach with hands and arms above shoulder level, lift up to 30 pounds. To bend, sit, stand, squat, stoop, walk, push, pull, and reach with hands and arms at shoulder level or below. Always required to wear the appropriate safety equipment for the task, which may include gloves, goggles, aprons, belts, etc.
