The Sustainability team is seeking an Associate to support implementation of the Firm's sustainability strategy and initiatives. The team works to advance sustainability in the financing activities of JPMorgan Chase's lines of business (LOBs) and throughout our operations. Through this work, the team manages several key priorities, including: the development and implementation of firmwide sustainability and climate change related commitments; internal and external reporting and communications on environmental, social and governance (ESG) matters; client, investor, policymaker and NGO engagement; sustainability grantmaking; reputation risk management; and operational sustainability management.
The Sustainability team is part of JPMorgan Chase's Corporate Responsibility (CR) department, whose mission is to advance a stronger, more durable and safe financial system and an inclusive economy and society for clients, customers and communities around the world. In addition to Sustainability, CR includes teams focused on policy and regulatory affairs, global philanthropy, impact finance, community engagement and data analysis and research. The Sustainability team works closely with these groups throughout CR as well as with senior executives and partners in the LOBs, Risk Management, Corporate Strategy, Legal, Investor Relations, Global Real Estate and others on a day-to-day basis.
The Associate will have an important role in supporting the full team on a diverse range of initiatives, with a focus on key work streams outlined below.
Job Description & Responsibilities:
Strategic sustainability grantmaking
Support all aspects of the development and execution of JPMC's grantmaking strategy and ongoing management of its grant portfolio, which focuses on sustainability as well as advancing equitable community climate resilience and adaptation
Lead the grants management process from start to finish, including:
Working with organizations to ensure timely submission of materials in the firm's grants database (Cybergrants), including financials and other required information
Reviewing materials for completeness and accuracy
Preparing relevant materials required for internal approvals
Managing the grant agreement process, including writing grant agreements, working in collaboration with Legal and grantees
Tracking payments
Ensuring timely receipt of reports from grantees on outcomes and impact
Manage tracking of the grant budget and related internal reporting requirements
Support impact analysis, including the identification and collection of appropriate impact metrics
Work with grantees and JPMC stakeholders to coordinate any related external or internal communications, such press releases
Prepare internal materials and presentations to senior executives, as needed
Stakeholder engagement
Conduct research and develop insights on a range of environmental and social topics, including those related to policy/regulation, stakeholder trends/perspectives and industry practices, to inform JPMC's sustainability strategy
Support the firm's efforts to respond to various policymaker, industry and stakeholder consultations and initiatives, including by conducting research and coordinating responses
Support ongoing management of key stakeholder relationships, including memberships
Coordinate planning and execution of internal and external roundtables and events with JPMC staff and stakeholders
Manage internal and external inquiries related to the Firm's ESG and sustainability initiatives
Develop materials needed for internal meetings and external engagements
Candidate Profile:
The ideal candidate will have:
2-4 years of experience working in a business-focused sustainability role, the nonprofit sector, policy/think tank and/or philanthropy
Experience or interest in sustainability, climate and other ESG issues, and ideally some knowledge of banking/finance
Strong analytical, critical thinking, quantitative analysis and program management skills
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively and professionally in a small team and with senior executives
Ability to excel and maintain a positive attitude in a high-performance, fast-paced professional environment, while managing multiple projects under tight deadlines
Highly experienced in using Excel and Power Point
Outstanding judgment, attention to detail, and independent decision-making ability
Strong initiative, entrepreneurial spirit and desire to learn
