Customer Success Technical Project Manager

You possess a deep understanding of agile software development, with the proven ability to lead and deliver results on agile software developments teams.  You will successfully balance innovative and proven approaches to deliver on customer objectives. Your technical expertise and teamwork will position you as a key contributor of the customer success delivery team. You will lead an agile development team that will deploy customer solutions leveraging Johnson Control’s OpenBlue platform, providing the latest in cloud technologies, graph databases, and IoT to Johnson Control’s customer base.

What you will do

Johnson Controls is looking for a Technical Project Manager to lead solution engineering lifecycle for agile team(s), from requirements through development, delivery and customer feedback phase.  You will collaborate with end customers, global solution architects, and global delivery teams to develop meaningful software solutions to drive the future of our customer’s smart buildings.  You will develop software for a wide variety of customer solutions, including those that leverage advanced 3D visualization and Johnson Control’s OpenBlue platform.

How you will do it


  • Understand end customer problems and develop epics, features, and user stories to outline how the solution will solve those problems

  • Lead agile grooming sessions to break down and estimate epics, features, and user stories

  • Review and gain alignment with end customer on proposed requirements

  • Balance customer requirements vs. software development team capacities

  • Build and maintain a solution backlog in Azure Dev Ops

  • Prioritize epics, features, and user stories on the solution backlog

  • Provide recommendations, gain buy-in and champion development to establish a clear position on solution features and capabilities

  • Work with Agile Development Teams, UX, Workstream Leaders, and Global Solution Architects to drive software design, estimation, development, and deployment

  • Actively participate in all required Agile ceremonies

  • Partner with tech leads to evaluate technical feasibility of requested features & functionality and provide alternative options when required

  • Effectively balancing the delivery of features & releases with technical debt

  • Occasional travel will be required

What we look for


  • Prior experience development solutions that leverage public clouds such as Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, or the Google Cloud Platform

  • 7+ years of experience in software development industry

  • Prior experience developing both web applications and thick client applications

  • Past software development (programming) experience in web based and thick client applications

  • Prior experience managing team backlogs in Azure Dev Ops or Jira

  • BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Computer Engineering

  • Strong written skills and the ability to effectively communicate to project stakeholders, software development team, as well as the end customer

  • Existing experience with either building management or physical security systems

Additional Desired skills


  • RESTful API Design and familiarity with GraphQL

  • Prior experience with Autodesk Forge platform

  • Prior experience with BIM (Building Information Modeling)

  • Knowledge and skills with security, authentication, and authorization in distributed cloud systems

  • Comprehensive understanding of Digital Twin platforms, such as Johnson Controls OpenBlue platform
