BASIC FUNCTION:


The Mechanic/Machinist makes, as required, mechanical and machined modifications, updates, and repairs to enhance the performance of Flight Training Device(s) and other associated equipment utilized by FlightSafety International by performing the following duties.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The following duties are essential to the successful and satisfactory performance of this job. Other duties may be assigned.


FlightSafety Learning Centers provide training and support to Customer and Clients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Learning Center mechanics/machinists may be scheduled at varying times and days to support the Customer needs.


Mechanic/Machinist Apprentice (Grade 9) - Makes, as required, mechanical and machined modifications, updates, and repairs to enhance the performance of Flight Training Device(s) and other associated equipment utilized by FlightSafety International.


Job Duties:


* Repair malfunctioning parts, as directed; this includes bench check, reinstallation and operation verification of the part, ensuring all indications and functions are in accordance with applicable technical specifications.


* Design, fabricate, assemble and test electro-mechanical components used for Flight Training Devices and other training equipment.


* Perform installation, operation, inspection, periodic maintenance (align and adjust), design, modification, repair, customer configuration changes, and test equipment and/or tools.


* Troubleshoot, isolate, and repair or replace hydraulic systems pertaining to Flight Training Devices.


* Perform scheduled periodic checks of, and repairs to, hydraulic systems mechanical systems of designated flight Simulators.


* Participate in mechanical and hydraulic component repairs, Simulator rigging, and hydraulic systems setup.


* Maintain hydraulic and mechanical components associated with flight Simulator motion, control loading, access ramps, and other secondary control systems.


* Use knowledge of Simulator primary controls and assist in the rigging of rudders, elevators, ailerons, etc.


* Create and maintain a safe working area by using knowledge of general requirements of visual system installations and the supplemental installation of walkways and platforms attached to equipment frames and superstructures.


* Monitor, maintain, and report on operational readiness of all FTD devices to the Lead Technician or the A/MFTD.


* Document work performed in the shift log.


* Provide assistance to Simulation Operations Support (SOS) to support mechanical needs at other than the currently assigned training center.


* If required, work with outside vendors to manufacture and/or design parts.


* Initiate or assist users (DOTs, PMs, instructors, clients, etc.) in the use of ePodium when creating a Simulator Discrepancy Report (SDR) , as well as how to access all of the documentation on ePodium previously available only in the Simulator Logbook. .


* Accountable for the security of FlightSafety International materials, projects and business information regarding the methods and techniques used in the production and usage of FlightSafety International products.


* Adhere to required work schedule including prompt and regular attendance.


* Report, on a timely basis, any safety hazards observed in work area, equipment, and/or building to appropriate person(s) for correction.


* Participate in inter-shift briefings, reviewing the shift log, and shift pass downs; reviewing Simulator Logs, and maintaining email communication.


* Make recommendations to the Lead/Sr. Lead Technician or the A/MFTD concerning needed parts, acquisitions, or other material used for FTD repair and support, or other Center projects.


* Participate in the Quality Management System (QMS) activities at assigned site and adhere to the processes related to accomplishing the site's QMS goals.


* Participate in Learning Center Safety Management System (SMS) activities including: supporting and promoting the safety culture, reporting all aviation safety-related issues via the feedback system, and adhering to the processes related to accomplishing SMS goals.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: (Minimum Requirements)


Mechanic/Machinist Apprentice (Gr 9) - High school diploma or Certificate of High School Equivalency (G.E.D. - demonstrated satisfactory performance in the General Educational Development Testing Program) preferred; or a combination of three (3) years' education and experience, including:


* A&P or related civilian/military mechanical/machinist technology; or


* Equivalent direct experience with simulators or other FTDs
