Ashland has an exciting opportunity for an Environmental, Health and Safety Manager to join our Personal Care business at our Columbus Atlas Street Plant - Columbus/Ohio. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the EHS function. This position will report to the Plant Manager.

The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Manage and oversee the facility’s compliance with OSHA’s Process Safety Management regulation

  • Management of the Environmental, Health, Safety and Security related Management of Change process.

  • Manage the facility’s industrial hygiene and occupational health and wellness processes, including routine and random drug testing and annual physicals.

  • Manage all Columbus facility occupational injury and illness events including oversight of the workers compensation program and issues.  Ensure compliance with OSHA record keeping requirements.

  • Manage and implement the site’s proactive safety processes and leading indicators.

  • Perform monitoring, testing, and reporting for all required permits.

  • Work closely with the local, state, and federal governing agencies to maintain a reputable relationship while maintaining compliance with all rules and regulations.

  • Supervise the Waste Treatment Plant

  • In case of emergency, the EHS manager shall be available. Facility runs 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.

In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:


  • Bachelors’ degree in Engineering, Safety, Environmental, Industrial Hygiene or similar field

  • Designation as a Certified Safety Professional through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals

  • 5-8 years of manufacturing safety experience

  • 5 years Managerial experience

The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:


  • General computer knowledge (Microsoft Office)

  • Able to work independently in order to manage tasks to meet all requirements

  • Able to prioritize responsibilities

  • Experience in SAP

  • PSM experience

  • Work Permit Program experience
