Communications Specialist, International Development Group at RTI Research Triangle Institute

IDG's is looking for a communications professional eager to join its growing communications team. The Communications Specialist will support building the profile and visibility of IDG's work, impact, and experts to critical audiences domestically and internationally to demonstrate IDG's successes, capabilities, and value to clients, and to grow IDG's business. The Communications Specialist will also provide direct communications support to donor-funded projects implemented by IDG around the world.

This will be a full-time position that may be based remotely or in RTI's offices in Research Triangle Park, NC or Washington, DC. Telecommuters and international telecommuters will be considered on case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities


  • Work collaboratively within the communications team and across IDG to increase the visibility of IDG's activities and expertise in support of business priorities.

  • Stay up to date on communications trends and best practices, keeping IDG informed and identifying opportunities to leverage new tools, approaches, and platforms to achieve communications goals in creative ways.

  • Seek out new and creative approaches to showcase IDG's work with an emphasis on results in the field, including human interest, measurable impact, and success stories.

  • Manage and/or support global events, including conferences, workshops, webinars, panel presentations, receptions, social media events, briefings, etc.

  • Collaborate with technical experts and project staff to communicate IDG's research, capabilities, and impact to wider audiences, including by producing high-quality success stories, blogs, and videos.

  • Develop written and digital content for external website, social media platforms, and other communications channels.

  • Create or manage creation of content-rich visuals, including infographics, for print and digital distribution.

  • Develop outreach materials, including fact sheets, brochures, and newsletters.

  • Provide communications support for RTI-led, donor-funded projects.








Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, marketing, international development, international relations, political science, business administration, or related social sciences and 5 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree and 3 years of relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated depth of related work experience in communications, marketing, journalism, or public relations required.

  • Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately and concisely convey complex and technical information.

  • Relevant experience in international development a plus.

  • Strategic thinker with proven ability to link communications activities to business strategy and goals.

  • Experience contributing to communications strategies or campaigns.

  • Basic knowledge of creative design applications.

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively and establish strong working relationships with key colleagues within IDG and other departments across RTI.

  • Proven project management skills, with ability to manage multiple activities or projects with competing deadlines.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Exposure to and interest in international development strongly preferred.

  • Self-starter, able to think creatively and work independently.

  • Effective organizational and time management skills.

  • Fluency in written and spoken English required and working knowledge of another language(s) (e.g., Arabic, Spanish, or French) is a plus.

  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 15% time.

Salary Information

The anticipated pay range for this role is between $60,000-80,000.

RTI considers multiple factors when making an offer including, for example: established salary range, internal budget, business needs, and education and years of work experience possessed by the applicant. Further, salary is merely one element to our offer.
