Job Description:

Position Summary

We are seeking a talented individual to aid in the development and characterization of enzymes and reagents. The individual will be part of a team that is focused on enzyme characterization, and they will independently execute experiments that build a comprehensive understanding of proteins, enzymes and reagents at Illumina’s Madison, Wisconsin, facility.

Responsibilities:


  • Characterization of biochemical mechanisms of proteins and enzymes using techniques including, but not limited to fluorescence, fluorescence polarization, colorimetric assays, HPLC, etc.

  • Use of biophysical tools and techniques to characterize enzymes

  • Participation in the design and implementation of stability testing programs for newly developed enzymes

  • Plan and execute various laboratory activities with limited instruction

  • Recognize potential problems, understand and troubleshoot assays and work to resolve any issues to minimize impact on success of project.

  • Optimize complex assays to achieve commercial levels of stability and performance.

  • Help plan and execute verification and validation studies.

  • Report recommendations based on tested experimental results.

  • Assesses information to ensure data sufficiency and completeness of results.

  • Write experimental protocols and reports

  • Act as a key contributor within integrated and multidisciplinary teams developing new, and improving existing clinical assays.

  • Assesses information to ensure data sufficiency and completeness of results.

  • Write experimental reports, summaries and protocols for supervisors, project needs, and other teams as appropriate

  • Contribute to the overall success of the project; anticipate problems to minimize issues and work to resolve any issues to minimize impact on success of project

  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements:


  • B.S. with 2 or more years of experience or a M.S. in biochemistry, chemistry, genetics, molecular biology, chemical engineering or related field.

  • Experience in designing and executing biomolecular assays. A background in enzymology, especially of DNA and RNA modifying enzymes, is considered a plus.

  • Experience with and/or knowledge of GMP, ISO 13485

  • Excellent familiarity with standard biochemical and enzymology techniques, and proficient with the analysis and interpretation of scientific data.

  • Excellent laboratory, organizational, analytical, and problem solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

  • A desire to be part of fast paced dynamic development environment.
