POSITION PURPOSE



The Executive Leader position is a high-profile leadership position that is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, operation, and success of Community Youth Programs in Camden City.  The Executive Leader will foster stakeholder relationships, design and implement impactful program, manage financial resources and provide leadership to our Community and Youth Development efforts, with a primary focus on Camden City.  

The Executive Leader will provide daily support to team members and offer ongoing leadership, motivation, and development.  They are responsible for casting, coaching, communication, alignment, and holding Department Leaders accountable to collective Greater Philadelphia YMCA expectations. 



 



Under extraordinary circumstances, all leaders will be asked to flex into areas they might not normally work in as well as contribute a greater degree of direct service in addition to their typical leadership responsibilities. These circumstances vary but may include but not be limited to those that result in the need for reduced hours while the amount of service being provided may still remain the same.



 



ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS




  • Promote(s) and represent(s) the mission and values of the YMCA.  Participate as a member of the association staff team and contribute to a consistent YMCA image.


  • Build community resources through the cultivation and development of relationships.  Actively engage members, volunteers and community leaders in the Y mission.


  • Develop a productive board of volunteers and build effective leadership for the programs and mission. Effectively utilize resources in fund raising and community engagement planning.


  • Develop and implement high quality programs that meet the needs of the community by creating inclusive, equitable programming.


  • Manage the activities and personnel in the development and delivery of programs and services. Recruit and develop staff and volunteers.


  • Create a positive staff environment where diverse staff members can work together to provide programs and services.  Develop and recognize staff to ensure continuous improvement, encouraging ongoing education and training of staff.


  • Create a member focus in all operations.  Ensure that all programs represent high quality YMCA programs and provide experiences that exceed member expectations. 


  • Monitor trends and developments in legislation, funding, markets, demographics and community needs to ensure this department continues to deliver cost effective programs.


  • Lead by example at all times.  Interact with a high level of professionalism and accountability.


  • Manages budgets, forecasts revenue and expenses for each department monthly/quarterly/annually


  • Manages supplies, payroll, cost of goods, and expenses for each department monthly/quarterly/annually


  • Partners closely with the Financial Development team to cultivate relationships and implements effective fund raising strategies to attain objectives.  Build volunteer and community resources and support to the YMCA.


  • Partners closely with Financial Development and Finance teams to meet funder requirements and maintain grant compliance.


  • Mentors (and motivates) Department Managers/Leaders to ensure continuous growth through training, developing, direction, assessing performance, and providing feedback


  • Creates and sustains an environment that values all people for their unique talents. Takes an active role in promoting and leveraging practices that support diversity, inclusion, global engagement and cultural competence.


  • Build(s) community resources through the cultivation and development of relationships.  Actively engage members, volunteers and community leaders in the Y mission. Authorizes new hires, promotions, employee status changes, and terminations with the Department Leaders ​


  • Promotes and sustains an environment where Safety and Child Protection are at the highest priority and has zero tolerance for non-compliance.


  • Develops positive, collaborative relationships with school administration, parent-teacher organizations, outside vendor staff and GPY staff including Association Office support staff


ROLE SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS




  • Master’s Degree preferred, Bachelors Graduate or Equivalent


  • 5+ years experience in fitness, retail, recreation management or hospitality industries


  • 5+ years experience managing 150+ team members


  • 5+ years experience managing Profit and Loss (P&L) statements/revenue/EBITDA budgets


  • Experience providing high-end member service and managing member concerns


  • Track record of success in a performance driven work environment


  • Excellent interviewing skills


  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, reach, climb and lift up to 50 pounds

  • As a Mandated Reporter you are obligated to report ALL suspicions of abuse or neglect to the requisite state agency.

  • Maintaining the safety of all members and staff by identifying and correcting risk situations, and ensuring incident-reporting procedures are followed.


  • Ensuring the overall cleanliness of the facility.

  • Maintaining a clean, well-groomed appearance and keeping in compliance with the Association and Department Dress Code Policy.


  • Exhibit strong leadership skills; possess a passion and commitment to member service and satisfaction, building and maintaining a culture of ensuring excellent Member Experience (MX).

  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


 



Essential Duties and Responsibility Addition for All Staff:



In order to ensure the health and wellness of the employees, members, and visitors of the GPY YMCA and all locations where GPY YMCA operates business, in addition to the essential duties and responsibilities listed on your current job description, the following are additional duties and responsibilities that may be assigned at any time where appropriate during the COVID-19 pandemic or any pandemic/communicable disease where the duties are appropriate. These additions are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive and other duties may be assigned and required as needed:




  • Enhanced cleaning in areas where the employee is not directly/normally assigned as well as normally assigned areas. All employees are expected to assist in and support the efforts of the GPY YMCA when it comes to health and wellness for the facility and other locations where the GPY YMCA conducts business. All employees are expected to wipe machines, screens, computers, or anything that is used after they use it, all employees are expected to wash their hands on a frequent basis (recommended every 30 minutes if possible), and use hand sanitizer when hand washing is not available.


  • Temperature Taking/Wellness Questionnaire Taking Assignments


  • Directing Members/Visitors in areas where the employee is both normally and not normally assigned


  • The employee may be assigned to areas other than their normally assigned area as needed to meet organizational needs. Examples of this include, but are not limited to, being assigned areas to count people, help direct flow of traffic in an area, being assigned to a specific area to assist with doors, and any other duty as needed by the organization.


  • All other duties as assigned as it relates to COVID-19 or other communicable disease and/or pandemic.


 



PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS



Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of spoken word to impart oral information and to convey detailed, spoken instructions to staff, members, children, and volunteers accurately, quickly, and loudly. Ability to perceive the nature of sounds by ear; ability to lift and carry 50-75 pounds; ability to maintain body equilibrium to prevent falling. Ability to move about on foot quickly; ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl. Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. Ability to judge distances and spatial relationships so as to see objects where they actually are and clearly see at 20 inches or less and 20 feet or more.



 



ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS



Exposure to high levels of noise and various environmental conditions.



 



Acquire and maintain the following certifications:



  • CPR/AED/O2/First Aid obtained through the American Red Cross (valid 2 years)


  • Requisite OSHA online trainings (valid 1 year unless otherwise noted)


  • Mandated Reporter Training (valid 5 years)


  • Additional training and development specific to your role as reference in onboarding packet.
