Assistant Director of Campus Safety and Security at Saint Anselm College

Job Description:

Saint Anselm College, a liberal arts college in the Benedictine tradition, is seeking a, Assistant Director of Campus & Security.  Reporting to the Director of Campus Safety & Security, the Assistant Director assists in managing all activities with the day-to-day and long-range operations of the Department.  The Assistant Director serves the function of maintaining leadership continuity and chain of command and, in the absence of the Director, will assume leadership of the Department.  The Assistant Director will be able to perform all of the regular duties of a Security Officer. 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Serve as a liaison for the Department, representing the Department across the College and establishing connections with other departments and divisions.  Will also liaise with student organizations as the Departmental contact, and will oversee the development, implementation and delivery of outreach/education programming and crime prevention offerings for the campus community.

  • Accountable for the supervision of assigned personnel on duty, will be part of the hiring and recommendation process, scheduling/assigned work projects, and evaluate and approve requests for leave.

  • Assists the Director in establishing policy development and review of standardized operating procedures.

  • Coordinates and facilitates the development of a standardized Field Training program for new employees and establishing yearly training objectives for all staff members.

  • Assist in planning, supervising and coordinating daily campus safety and security operations.

  • Assist in the Departments responsibilities for Cleary compliance, the training of campus personnel on their required reporting responsibilities, and assisting in submitting the Annual Security Report.

  • Participate in Title IX investigations, where needed, and offer prevention modalities at the conclusion of each case.

  • Assist on duty security officers in for the enforcement of campus parking regulations and enforcement of traffic violations.

  • Respond to complaints/calls related to possible criminal activity, and investigate incident and/or identify involved individuals as appropriate to assist on duty personnel.

  • Assist area police with investigations on campus and liaise with responding Fire apparatus as necessary.

  • Provide security service operational plans as necessary such as parking and traffic direction, crowd control, and the like, for special events.

Associate or Bachelor degree; minimum education plus four to five years of relevant work experience, or a combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.


  • Broad base of knowledge and skills relevant to law enforcement and security methods and procedures, including investigation of accidents, criminal acts, and other emergency situations; familiarity with relevant criminal and civil laws and regulations.

  • Broad experience in developing department directives (manual, policies, SOP’s, operational plans)   

  • Excellent written communications, public speaking and interpersonal skills. Good working knowledge of fire prevention and firefighting methods.

  • Good working knowledge of building security systems and operations.

  • Relevant first aid training, including CPR.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience.

  • Ability to deal effectively with a wide range of individuals, in some instances under stressful, dangerous and/or emergency conditions.

  • Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.

  • Demonstrated integrity.

  • Physical ability to perform all job duties.
