Summary of Job Duties:

Summary:
The County Extension Agent-Agriculture conducts educational programs for county clientele in the areas of agriculture and natural resources for adult and youth audiences.

Duties:
Program Planning and Development
Develops and implements a plan of work based on needs assessment, issues identified by advisory sub-committees, and the Agriculture and Natural Resources and stakeholder input. Works with County Extension Council and advisory sub-committees that reflect the appropriate geographic, gender, age, racial-ethnic population, and socio-economic levels in the county to identify program priorities for Agriculture and Natural Resources, 4H and Youth, and Community and Economic Development educational programs. Collaborates with subject matter specialists to plan delivery of relevant programs based on local needs and issues.

Program Implementation
Recruits and trains volunteers to assist in delivery of educational programs. Identifies and recruits credible, well respected volunteers and producers as cooperators with on-farm demonstrations. Plans on farm demonstrations that show innovative practices or solutions to problems in an actual farm situation to show its viability or applicability. Uses research based information in educational programming. Adapts program delivery to meet the needs of clientele. Provides one-on-one consultation with homeowners, farmers, and ranchers to trouble shoot problems and give advice on best management practices. Shows evidence of superior presentation skills. Collaborates across program areas within the county and with peers across county lines. Markets the Extension Educational program internally and externally for maximum visibility. Uses all available media to promote programs, including social media, traditional media, electronic delivery, and face to face. Contributes to an annual interpretive event that showcases County extension successes to local leaders, stakeholders and county extension council members.

Uses sound evaluation instruments to measure short, medium and long term outcomes of key educational programs that contribute to clientele behavioral and/or practice change and to improve educational efforts as well as improved quality of life, economic and/or environmental conditions. Conduct evaluations that validate the public value of extension educational programs and accountability to stakeholders and funders.

Reporting
Submits accurate reports in a timely manner. Collects and keeps data up to date and readily accessible. Provides impact reports on educational program results that shows accountability, transparency, honesty, and fairness.

Professionalism
Upholds the reputation of the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture in order to maintain the trust and confidence of both the University community and the citizens of the State of Arkansas. Responds to client needs, questions or requests in a timely manner. Regularly takes advantage of learning opportunities. Incorporates newly learned knowledge and skills from relevant professional development into the Extension educational program. Seeks continuous learning through research journals and other appropriate research-based sources of information.

Displays a positive cooperative attitude toward co-workers, clientele, work assignments and requirements, complies with established work rules and organizational policies. Responsible for working as a team with other Extension staff and support co-workers with their programming efforts.

Resource Management
Seeks extramural funding to enhance and sustain the quality of Extension educational programs. Exhibits responsible stewardship of human, natural, and financial resources.



Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in agriculture or related area is required. Must have transportation for use on the job with liability insurance in effect.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of the organization, operation, philosophy, & objectives of the Cooperative Extension Service. Ability to plan & conduct programs without discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, gender, age, disability, marital or veteran status, or any other legally protected status. Ability to evaluate programs & recognize when they are not having the anticipated impact & take corrective actions to achieve the desired results. Knowledge of & ability to apply principles of management. Ability to work effectively with other Extension personnel, county leadership, & the general public. Ability to speak & write clearly & communicate ideas effectively. Ability to work long & irregular hours & travel frequently.
