As a Systems Consulting Engineer you will lead as part of the CTO team in creating and harmonizing architectures across all Avaya's products and solutions. This is a cross-organizational role that boldly advances Avaya's success in cloud while assuring Avaya's market-leading customer base and embedded products are supported and evolve in concert with new innovations that are coming into view. The leader in this role also has a significant hand in shaping our technology strategy: synergizing technology and market trends, customer vision, strategic partnerships, and Avaya business goals.
You will be responsible for working closely with architects across the business to advance key facets of the Avaya OneCloud reference architecture, bringing together the best of Avaya's technical thought leaders to drive common, reusable solutions for Contact Center, Unified Communications, and Collaboration, rooted in matching best-in-class technology to customer requirements. Key work areas for the team include WebRTC-based cloud telephony, identity services, analytics, AI, multitenancy, multi-vendor cloud, containerization, and security. Performance, scale, and industrial-strength robustness span all the architectural topics.
To be successful in this role you will have an innate ability to propose and close on architecture choices that further Avaya's business and customer success, while creating deep alignment across Avaya's engineering teams.
* Lead large and small technical teams to complete Avaya's next generation reference architecture for cloud.
* Construct results-focused PoCs in support of architectural decisions, oftentimes engaging technology partners to evaluate and recommend the way forward on buy/build decisions.
* Share and evangelize Avaya's architecture direction with customers and partners while bringing key learnings and feedback to the technical team.
* Lead in specifying company-wide engineering standards that provide guidance, governance, and uniformity across our product portfolio. Serve as a CTO voice of authority in business level gate decisions.
* Bring competitive intelligence to inform and shape architecture and technical strategy.
EXPERIENCE:
* Successfully ideating, expressing and aligning complex architectural ideas in clear, compelling terms using written text, diagrams, and live audience presentation and dialog.
* Success at "decisions that stick" arrived at through collaboration, active listening, and when needed, making the difficult decision.
* Successfully delivering communication and collaboration products to market, with experience in each of architecture, requirements, design, implementation, test, and customer support.
* An outstanding track record of building relationships and trust at all levels, based on technical insight, follow-through on commitments, and stepping beyond the boundaries to help.
* Bringing alignment and enrollment across diverse perspectives among business and technical leaders. The ability to influence without formal authority is essential.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:
* A command of all elements of communications and collaboration technology in the market and coming to market; especially cloud technology, IaaS, PaaS, CPaaS, SaaS, and associated elements (containerization, orchestration, DevOps, security, etc).
* A proven track record of architecture, design and buildout of performant and extensible management systems and tools with a solution-wide reach, leveraging a federated environment of API-first and legacy backend systems.
* Be fearless of facts, and driven to discover truth without exaggeration, or over-generalization. Quick to admit errors, correct them, and move on.
* The ability to lead as a servant of the team: humility, yet insistent on excellence in all those near you.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
* Working in a fast-paced geographically dispersed organization, ability to collaborate with remote teams is a must.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
* Moderate (10%) travel required.
EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION:
* Master's Degree in Computer Science
* 10+ years professional experience in Communications Software Industry.
