Performs a comprehensive range of cytology analyses on patient specimens in both routine and emergency situations. Such analyses incorporate a thorough knowledge of test principles and techniques permitting the proper evaluation of a specimen for processing, performance of cytology preparation and screening, interpretation of data, and verification and communication of results.

Responsibilities


  • 1. Screen and Evaluate Cell Samples

    • 1.1 Screens and evaluates cell samples of gynecological as well as non-gynecological material, considering all diagnostic possibility.

  • 2. Cytology Reporting

    • 2.1 Provides the clinician wtih a clear, concise report describing microscopic findings and conclusions in accepted cytological terminology.

  • 3. Accuracy and Productivity

    • 3.1 Maintains average productivity of 8 slides per hour, exclusive of non-screening activities.

  • 4. Cytopreparation

    • 4.1 Prepares all non-gynecological specimens.

  • 5. Continued Medical Education

    • 5.1 Maintains current required certification, licenses, and skill level.

  • 6. Communication, Quality Improvement, Customer Service

    • 6.1 Assists in creation, review and revision of written procedures and protocols.

Qualifications

EDUCATION


Bachelor of Science Degree in Cytotechnology or equivalent. ASCP registry as Cytotechnologist


EXPERIENCE


Two years experience in a Cytopathology laboratory in association with an accredited program in Cytotechnology.


LICENSURE


ASCP registration as cytotechnologist


SPECIAL SKILLS


Ability to identify normal and abnormal cells under a microscope for extended period of time


PHYSICAL DEMAND


Extended periods sitting at a microscope is required. Attention to detail, technical skills and communication as essential job requirements.
