Summary of Job Duties:

The Physics Library Supervisor assists the Director of the Physics Library in the overall maintenance and day-to-day public service operations of the library and serves as backup to the Director in their absence. This position is responsible for hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating extra-help staff and preparing departmental schedules and ensuring that adequate coverage is provided. Some on-call time may be required. This position provides reference services to students, faculty, and community patrons and is expected to develop and maintain a working knowledge of all library collections and resources, including physics-related databases, to assist patrons with basic and in-depth information queries. This position may assist with or give small group training or presentations to students or other potential patrons. This position performs circulation and reserve functions, including shelving, filing, and processing library materials; maintains copier and other library-related equipment; conducts supply ordering and problem reporting; and collects and reports library and material use statistics regularly. The Physics Library Supervisor will report to the Director of the Physics Library.



Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:


  • The formal education equivalent of an associate's degree in office administration, business management, business administration


  • Three years of experience in library services, including one year in a supervisory or leadership capacity


Applicable equivalencies may be considered.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Relevant library experience


  • Experience with computers, including word processing and spreadsheets


  • Experience working with library databases and other bibliographic tools


  • At least two years of supervisory experience

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills


  • Demonstrated attention to detail


  • Strong commitment to public service


  • Strong interpersonal skills


  • Proven ability to interact with patrons in a positive and proactive manner
