Job Description:

Come join a dynamic new national media powerhouse focused on the over-the-air and streaming TV consumer. The Scripps Networks (a growing portfolio of entertainment and news networks) provides absorbing entertainment and objective, intelligent news as we use our own distribution platforms to serve this unduplicated national audience. We meet the audience where it is with the programs it wants.

The Producer / Editor is responsible for shooting, writing, producing and editing compelling stories for 24/7 news network Newsy. They will deliver fact-based, unbiased and contextual reporting for multiple platforms, both independently and/or with a reporting partner. 

What you'll do:


  • Under general direction, develop sources, gather information, pitch news and features that are accurate, informative and balanced in a manner that meets the highest journalistic standards


  • Work independently and/or with reporting partner to use cutting edge and experimental story-telling techniques in shooting, producing graphics, writing and editing under tight deadlines


  • Produce compelling and urgent reports both live and in package form


  • Write compelling hard news and feature scripts for reporters


  • Troubleshoot audio and visual issues, manage equipment and provide technical expertise


  • React to breaking news, including last-minute travel


  • Exercise strong editorial judgment in choosing and/or escalating stories 


  • Pitch stories on a daily basis 


  • Manage multiple projects at once 


  • Manage workflow and organizes content for others to use


  • As needed, may front reporting on camera 


What you'll bring:

Education & Experience/Certifications 


  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism or Communications or equivalent experience


  • 3 years of experience as a news or documentary videographer and editor


Skills & Abilities 


  • Must be a team player and work effectively in a fast-paced environment


  • Technical experience setting up/conducting field stand ups, interviews and live shots required


  • High level of proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro 


  • Proficiency with After Effects a strong plus


  • A visual mind and ability to organize gear


  • Knowledge of best videography and lighting practices to create high production value


  • Copywriting and visual storytelling skills


  • Strong communication skills


  • Works calmly under pressure


  • A passion for national and human interest news stories


  • On-camera experience a plus
