Job Description:

Arcadis is currently searching for a number of Distribution Planning Engineers at various levels of expertise to join our team in various client locations in upstate NY.

With the backing of one of the industry's leading technical and professional staffs, you will assist with assessment planning and design of utility electrical distribution systems in upstate New York.

Who you are:

  • Basic understanding and proficiency with Microstation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, MS Project and Outlook).
  • Ability to adapt to use of new design software which includes drafting, surveying and engineering
  • Basic Knowledge of PLC controls and SCADA as well as SCADA network architecture.
  • Basic knowledge of power, power distribution, motor control, block diagrams, and variable frequency drives.
  • Basic understanding of electrical codes primarily the NESC along with knowledge of the NEC as well as NFPA standards.
  • Basic knowledge of power distribution. Power factor correction, voltage regulation, reliability metrics, SAIFI, SAIDI & CAIDI
  • Field experience with instrumentation/electrical site inspections.
  • Previous experience with Engineering/Consulting firm.

What you will do:


  • Perform engineering analyses of the electric distribution system to serve new customer loads; complete distribution system reliability studies and contingency plans; review capital budget project proposals; assist with preparation of NPVs; determine correction of circuit electrical operating deficiencies, etc.; conduct capacity analyses of key substation equipment.
  • Conduct engineering evaluations of distribution materials; select proper materials, applications, equipment for approval; and conducts material failure analyses. May aid customer service groups on power quality uses including investigation, analysis, and mitigation.
  • Perform flicker analysis for large customer motors. Analyzes the impact of customer-interconnected distributed generation. May provide fuse-recloser coordination service including the review and updating of coordination schemes.
  • Recommend necessary system improvement and/or construction projects and provide necessary documents for those projects.
  • Help develop and implement electric reliability plans, Assist with preparation of reports and feasibility studies for submission to management.
  • Interpret and administer company policies and procedures relating to personnel, industrial relations, service extensions, safety, accounting, and purchasing.
  • Support Avangrid in storm restoration efforts. This includes travel throughout Avangrid service areas as needed.


    Required Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or closely related engineering field.
    • EIT certification, or ability to obtain within 1 year of hire and ability to obtain Professional registration when eligible

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience with utility distribution systems
    • Candidate must be willing to relocate to the various locations as required by the client. ​​​​​​​
