Job Description

Novo Logistics is seeking a reliable, self-driven, and team-oriented professional with training, problem-solving, communication, and management skills for the position of Safety Manager. This position is within a fast-paced warehouse environment in Ardmore, Oklahoma. We offer competitive compensation and opportunities for growth.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Conduct unannounced compliance inspections of the job site using applicable OSHA Standards, International

  • Fire Code, and local safety regulations/policies.

  • Identify and/or train others to identify safety and health hazards and violations.

  • Identify and recommend reasonable and feasible means of abatement of identified hazards and potential violations.

  • Use camera equipment to document inspection findings as appropriate.

  • Investigate industrial accidents or near-misses to determine the root cause(s) and to assist in developing policies

  • to prevent future occurrences.

  • Coordinate safety activities within the facility.

  • Conduct training of new and existing team members on standard operating procedures.

  • Responsible for properly and accurately maintaining OSHA logs.

  • Responsible for ensuring proper licensing of onsite forklift/powered industrial truck operators.

  • Conduct annually required training.

  • Responsible for carrying out other assigned safety and health duties as necessary to ensure a safe working environment.

  • Prepare written reports and training materials.

  • Identify opportunities for retraining and conduct training as needed.

  • Assist HR and employees with Worker’s Compensation claims as needed.

  • Keep abreast of new safety-related technologies, standards, codes, rules, and regulations.

  • Organize and champion the Safety Committee. Set up monthly safety topics and meetings with Team Members.

  • Participate in relevant meetings and represent Novo when necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:


  • Knowledge of and thorough understanding of OSHA Standards, such as fall protection, forklift, lockout-tagout, LP gas storage, machine guarding, bloodborne pathogens, etc.

  • Knowledge of other regulations and guidelines, such as the National Fire Protection Association- NFPA; Uniform

  • Building Codes-UBC; Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration- FMCSA; and National Electrical Codes-NEC.

  • Knowledge of computer software programs such as Microsoft Office.

  • Skilled in the presentation of safety training programs.

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Skilled in effective interpersonal skills, negotiation, time management, organization, and customer service.

  • Ability to demonstrate advanced knowledge and application of federal, state, and local occupational safety and health laws and regulations.

  • Ability to demonstrate analytical problem-solving skills, through a systematic approach by identifying the problem, developing a course of action, implementing an action to affect a solution, and measuring the effectiveness of the action taken.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATION:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in occupational safety and health; safety engineering, or related field. Minimum of five years of experience, which includes primary responsibility in four of the following areas in general industry: hazard identification, hazard evaluation, hazard control design, safety/health program design, and safety/health program evaluation.

Authorized OSHA 10- and 30-hour General Industry Training.

Authorized Red Cross or National Safety Council First Aid/CPR Instructor.

Forklift trainer.

Valid driver’s license.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed both inside an office environment with moderate lighting and temperature, and outside in areas surrounding the warehouse and manufacturing plant with exposure to heat, cold and inclement weather. May involve moderate exposure to potentially dangerous materials or situations, such as extreme heights, temperatures, dust, fumes, vapors, solvents and chemicals, and loud noises. Use of personal protective safety equipment is required. Work is performed using computer equipment. Work may be performed alone, with others, around others, and with verbal and face-to-face contact. Work may include extended days.
