Job Description:

Provide supervision and support to cross-dock employees performing the daily duties involved with freight management in line with departmental goals, practices, and procedures.  Specific duties include directing and coordinating all aspects of day-to-day cross-dock operations to obtain optimum use of equipment, facilities, and personnel by performing the following duties.



Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned: 


  • Safety is Lynden’s first responsibility to our employees and our customers.  This position is a safety-sensitive position and the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner is required.

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate all cross-dock operations including the sharing of information between departments in order to facilitate safe and efficient warehousing, pick-up, and less-than-container load delivery services.

  • Instruct, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate warehousing and less-than-container load driving personnel.

  • Responsible for all activities related to loading, unloading, warehousing, routing, dispatching, pick-up, and deliveries of consolidated freight shipments.

  • Operate trucks, forklifts, and other heavy machinery as part of regular duties as well as having to physically handle cargo and supplies.

  • Review cross-dock employee time-sheets daily.

  • Assist Human Resources/Safety department in ensuring operational and administrative compliance with company and corporate policies, as well as those policies dictated by DOT, DOL, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies.

  • Enter and review all warehousing and less-than-container load accident reports; initiate follow-up measures as prescribed by company and/or corporate policy.

  • Initiate or suggest plans to motivate workers to achieve departmental work goals.

  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company and corporate policies and applicable laws.

  • Assist in service center operations and equipment control as required.


Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate’s Degree (A.A) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school, a minimum of two years related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE AND SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; ability to read, write, and interpret routine reports and correspondence; ability to communicate effectively with customers, contractors, vendors, managers, and other employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL-SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide two digit numbers.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to understand detailed written and oral instructions; ability to prioritize and problem-solve in time/safety-sensitive situations.    

 

LEADERSHIP/DECISION-MAKING SKILLS:

Ability to organize, implement, and follow through to completion projects and tasks assigned or assumed; ability to provide direction to others; ability to provide objective and decisive action(s) necessary to resolve issues with minimal disruption to operational performance; ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely and efficient manner.

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must have a working knowledge of Windows, Outlook, Word, Excel, PeopleNet and RoadNet programs; must have proven supervisory skills; must have the ability to work well under pressure and handle demanding customer needs.  Able to balance team and individual responsibilities, give and welcome feedback, contribute to building a positive team spirit, and is able to build morale and group commitments to goals and objectives.  Forklift certification and Class A Alaska CDL with hazardous materials endorsement recommended.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit during the normal course of daily activities.  The employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to keyboard and operate a variety of machinery from office equipment to large forklifts.  The employee is regularly required to talk and hear while communicating with employees, customers, and vendors either in person, by radio, or by using the telephone; the employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
