We are seeking a Data Scientist to join our Product Support team in Olathe, KS. In this role, you will provide leadership, guidance, and development of new and existing data analysis methods and explore disparate data sources and apply analytic techniques to understand & visualize data across the Garmin landscape. You will present ideas and recommendations to stakeholders in many departments and levels to improve functions and give insights across the business. Other essential requirements:
Leverages advanced data knowledge to develop new and enhance existing methods of analysis by integrating modern methods and strategies
Presents data science ideas and recommendations across the business landscape to Team, Management, Executive Management, and review teams.
Provides data science and supporting general technical and architecture guidance and direction
Serves as organizational architect and spokesperson on specialized projects
Explores and integrates disparate data sets and analytic techniques to understand & visualize data relevant to potential and realized business issues & opportunities
Communicates implications, creates visualizations and reports on findings, alerting and narratives that further Garmin’s abilities. Value-based approach provides tangible benefits and implementable insights & recommendations.
Uses and promotes data-exploration of new and existing data sources to discover new or previously unasked questions and insights.
Transforms formulated problems into implementation plans for experiments by applying (and creating when necessary) the appropriate methods, algorithms, and tools, and statistically validating the results against biases and errors to communicate most effectively
Acquires and uses a broad knowledge of innovative methods, algorithms, and tools from IT industry and scientific literature to continuously improve Garmin’s data practice and capabilities.
Engages and contributes to the peer review process; receives and appropriately takes advantage of feedback from peers, & stakeholders.
Exercises independent judgment in methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results
Provides technical direction, mentoring, training and guidance to other individual contributors in the group
Professionally approaches situations in which conflict is present
Works on complex problems and provides solutions which are highly innovative and incorporate ideas from industry standards as well as one step beyond

Education, experience and skills required:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Business or another relevant field AND a minimum of 10 years relevant experience OR equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
Outstanding academics with the demonstrated ability to apply learned knowledge
Must possess a minimum of 5 years work experience using analytics-focused programming languages such as Python, R, Perl, Bash, and Java
Understanding of Big Data, regression and classification Machine Learning, and other Analytics technologies, such as Hadoop, Spark, and MapReduce
Ability to programmatically write algorithms
Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills in a large team or departmental setting
Must be team-oriented, possess a positive attitude and work well with others
Driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems
Investigative mind with demonstrated ability to follow logic and establish links from various data points
Excellent time management and follow-up skills
Superior organizational and analytical skills with keen attention to detail and quality
Desirable Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Machine Learning, Information Management, Information Science, or Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics
Experience working with multiple operating systems environments, associated networks, and infrastructure configurations.
Experience in the cleaning and processing of data sources including SQL, NoSQL, HDFS, XLS, CSV, etc.
Demonstrated understanding of descriptive and inferential statistics
Demonstrated success in working with large volumes of structured data
