The MBS (Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery) Coordinator must be a licensed or registered health care professional. The MBS Coordinator serves as a liaison between the center and the MBSAQIP (Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery Quality Improvement Program). The MBS Coordinator administrates the MBS Committee, assists in program development, managing the accreditation process, ensuring continuous compliance with the MBSAQIP Standards. The MBS Coordinator maintains relevant pathways and protocols, patient education, monitoring outcomes data and collection, quality improvement initiatives, and the education of relevant staff with a focus on metabolic and bariatric patient safety. The MBS Coordinator serves as the liaison between the facility and all metabolic and bariatric proceduralists at the center. The MBS Coordinator works closely with the MBS Clinical Reviewer to ensure timely submission of outcomes data to the MBSAQIP Registry. The MBS Coordinator must be present and actively participate in each MBSAQIP Site visit.

1. Collaborates with administration and the MBS Committee to manage the accreditation process and ensure continuous compliance with MBSAQIP requirements, maintaining relevant policies and procedures, patient education, outcomes data collection, quality improvement efforts, and education of relevant staff in the various aspects of the MBS patient with a focus on patient safety. Collaborates on an ongoing basis with Medical Director, Program Administrator and providers, promoting positive communication techniques and the ability to problem solve at every level.



2. Works with Medical Director to anticipate and identify the needs of the center and creatively implements solutions to problems. Integrates Evidence Based Practice into clinic improvements. Develops educational materials and lesson plans for multi-level individuals and/or groups delivering effective personalized, patient centered, family focused outcomes for Nutrition & Behavior Management classes, maintaining them regularly to include up to date, evidenced-based information.

4. Moderate support groups, behavioral management and nutritional classes.



5. Develop and maintain updated patient handbook, information session presentations, and patient photo slideshows.



6. Ability to utilize Excel spreadsheets and other data tracking software to monitor program parameters and outcomes.



7. Flexibility in schedule to accommodate evening support groups, information sessions and Nut/BM educational series.



8. Provides orientation, education and ongoing monitoring of additional program dietitians.



9. Maintains knowledge of Insurance requirements/documentation needed for pre-authorization.



10. Moderates multidisciplinary medical weight loss rounds and participates in the metabolic & bariatric surgery committee. Review and summarize patients requiring discussion at MBS committee meetings.



11. Ability to utilize Excel spreadsheets and other data tracking software to monitor program parameters and outcomes.



12. Provide individualized Medical Nutrition Therapy, including nutrition counseling and education, to patients and their support systems before and after surgery. Counseling techniques include motivational interviewing and goal setting. Education topics may include average weight loss expectations as result of treatment, risks of diet non-adherence, potential post-operative nutrition complications, label reading, portion control, meal planning, self-monitoring, etc.



13. Demonstrates awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own professional practice and development.



14. Actively participates /coordinates committees, task forces and work groups as needed or requested


Qualifications

Experience Minimum Required

* 5 years of experience working with Bariatric patients.

Experience Preferred/Desired

* Patient education experience

* Support Group/Leader experience

* Excel/Epic experience

* Outcomes data collection

* Policy/Workflow development

* ASMBS Member

* Commitment and compassion for treating patients with the disease of obesity.

* Experience in adult obesity patients is preferred.

* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, experience and expertise as a public speaker and group leader.

* Expert in the field of obesity and contribute to the field through national organization memberships, publications and presentation at national meetings.

Education Preferred/Desired

* BSN, BS Nutrition

Education Minimum Required

* Degree in Nursing or Nutrition

Special Skills Minimum Required

* Current licensure by the New Hampshire



Licensure and/or Certifications Required

* Current State of NH License

* BCLS
