Summary:

The Sr Software Test Engineer validates software products through the use of systematic tests to develop, apply, and maintain quality standards for company products. Develops, modifies, and executes software test plans and test protocols/scripts, and performs risk assessments. Maintains documentation of test results to assist in debugging and modification of software. Analyzes test results to ensure existing functionality and recommends corrective action. Consults with development engineers in resolution of problems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Lead software test efforts for projects and coordinate tasks as necessary to complete projects from requirements phase to software release

  • Research, design and build test automation framework and provide support on maintenance, enhancement and training.

  • Drive efficiencies to improve process and technical implementations

  • Collaborate with developers and product owners to draft and improve acceptance criteria

  • Lead concurrent projects and coordinates tasks as necessary to complete projects from requirements phase to software release

  • Follow internal software development, cybersecurity, and validation procedures that comply with medical and security regulations

  • Participate in software requirements and design reviews and provides feedback

  • Create and update validation plans, test protocols, automated test scripts, and executes software tests

  • Generates test cases using black and white box methods

  • Advice the leadership team on key technical considerations from the platform perspective

  • Write software risk analyses and validation reports

  • Create requirements traceability matrices which demonstrate test coverage of all features

  • Review documentation and test scripts generated by other software test engineers

  • Analyze failures and collaborates with software engineers to ensure root cause is investigated

  • Participate in code reviews

  • Enter and track failures or enhancements in the bug tracking system

  • Coach and mentor other test engineers.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:


  • Strong development skill with one or more of the following technologies: Python, Java, C# or similar languages. Good experience with common testing framework and tools such as robotframework, pyunit, junit, etc

  • Extensive knowledge in either software development or software testing (technical testing) (in medical device industry is a plus)

  • Working experience and strong understanding of data structures.

  • Strong experience with SQL and Relational databases and scripting languages such as Shell and Python

  • Four or more years of Agile development and test development experience in BI/DW

  • Experience developing in a continuous integration environment using Bamboo or similar CI frameworks

  • Understanding of good software development and testing practices

  • Strong oral and written skills and ability to follow Dexcom software development and test procedures

  • Ability to collaborate and learn from experienced engineers

  • Excellent oral communication skills for interfacing with peers in other departments including Quality, Regulatory, Operations, and Software R&D

  • Knowledge of source code management is a plus

Functional Description: Technical Individual Contributors

Debugs software products through the use of systematic tests to develop, apply, and maintain quality standards for company products. Maintains documentation of test results to assist in debugging and modification of software. Analyzes test results to ensure existing functionality and recommends corrective action. Consults with development engineers in resolution of problems. Provides feedback in preparation of technical appraisals of programming languages, systems, and computation software. Ensures quality computer integration into the overall functions of scientific computation, data acquisition, and processing.

  • Possesses broad understanding of technical principles and theories. Ability to synthesize external data and research findings for application that may impact technical objectives.

  • Demonstrates successes in technical proficiency and independent thought. Works on complex problems in which analysis of situations or data requires an in‐depth evaluation of various factors. Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

Judgement:


  • Exercises good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

  • Normally receives little instruction on day‐to‐day work, general instructions on new assignments.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 5-8 years related experience or Master's degree and 2-5 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 0-2 years experience.

Workplace Type:
  • The Workplace Type for this role is Flex. Based on the nature of your position you will be working onsite approximately 2-3 days per week from collaborative space and hoteling desks at our Dexcom sites. You will need to be located within commuting distance (typically 75 miles/120km) of your assigned Dexcom site.
