Summary:
Use sound and proven engineering principles in the implementation, characterization, improvement, and qualification/validation of manufacturing processes for replicate manufacturing equipment used in the scale-up of new or existing products.

Functional Description: Technical Individual Contributors

Provides technical and sustaining engineering support in a manufacturing area. Recommends and implements equipment and process modifications to improve production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques and production yields for existing products. Develops and conducts statistical analysis such as Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical Process Control (SPC) targeting physical cause of failure for yield loss and improving quality. Interacts with product design and development personnel to ensure that processes and designs are compatible.

  • Possesses advanced knowledge of technical principles and theories. Recommends solutions in support of functional objectives tied to overall company objectives and strategies.

Scope:

  • Demonstrates significant technical expertise, collaboration with others and independent thought. Anticipates potential complex problems requiring an in‐depth evaluation. Demonstrates strategic thinking and commercial/industry understanding in functional projects.

Judgement:


  • Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.

  • Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other colleagues.

Experience and Education Requirements:

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 8-12 years related experience or Master's degree and 5-7 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 2-4 years of experience.

Workplace Type:
  • The Workplace Type for this role is Assigned Desk. Based on the nature of your role you will have an assigned desk or office located at a Dexcom site and should plan to be onsite approximately 4-5 days per week.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for improvement, optimization, and implementation of manufacturing process/assembly steps and operating procedures for replicate equipment and processes within a regulated quality system.

  • Lead equipment/process qualifications including protocol development and execution.

  • Develop and maintain project timelines and provide updates and feedback to project leadership.

  • Effectively implement problem solving skills and techniques to identify potential process risks, assess their impact developing and implementing mitigation plans.

  • Plan and perform Design of Experiments (DOE) and utilize six sigma methodologies to characterize, assess capabilities, and determine optimal processing operating windows.

  • Consult with vendors to produce equipment, materials, and/or parts that meet determined product specifications

  • Perform statistically robust and industry standard analysis of data, and present findings to technical teams

  • Exercise judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action.

  • Transferring process knowledge and understanding to receiving site operations teams along with providing technical training for responsible processes.

  • Assist in the development of project timelines and provide technical updates and feedback to project leadership

  • Consult with AME Process Engineering in scaling up equipment and processes from prototype to pilot to full scale manufacturing

  • This position assumes and performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:


  • Typically requires a Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or equivalent with 8+ years related experience, preferred or a masters in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering or equivalent with 3+ years related experience.

  • Ability to run self-directed projects, maintain timelines, stay organized, and balance multiple activities in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to deal with ambiguity/uncertainty and a willingness to try new/challenging things.

  • Proven ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with factorial experimental design, data analysis, and interpretation of experiments; JMP experience, Statgraphics or Minitab preferred

  • Excellent communication (written and verbal) and personal interaction skills

  • Knowledge of high reliability, high volume manufacturing processes and designs.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Medical device experience

  • Lean Six Sigma or Six Sigma training and certification preferred

  • Deep understanding of formal DOE methodologies and techniques

  • Experience in qualifying/validating equipment & processes for use in the medical industry highly desired.

Travel Required:

  • Up to 25%

Language Skills: Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
