Job Description:

POSITION OBJECTIVE

To assist the Corporate Controller by providing full technical support and supervision of all activities related to the Corporate Accounting and SEC reporting functions:


  • Participate in and oversee the monthly accounting close, internal and external financial reporting (including SEC reporting), account reconciliation and SOX control processes, and accounting/technical research.

  • Liaison between Corporate and business units to facilitate the free flow of information and the resolution of accounting issues.

  • Assist the Corporate Controller in meeting other needs of senior management.

 

SCOPE OF ROLE


  • General accounting-related oversight of Federal Signal financial statements Specific accounting-related oversight of Corporate balance sheet

  • Authority to review and dictate accounting treatment for Corporate issues.

  • Liaison with business units on accounting treatment for non-Corporate or entity-wide issues.

  • Directly manage team of three, with indirect management of support personnel in other areas of the organization.

  • Coordinate closely with external auditors to assure effective completion of audits and reporting.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES


  • Oversee the monthly accounting close and corporate consolidation process, including all internal & external financial reporting. Contribute to and provide input for monthly forecasting and annual budgeting processes.

  • Review and approve monthly journal entries and account reconciliations, focusing on streamlining and documenting processes.

  • Identify, research, and resolve technical accounting issues at the Corporate and segment levels. Collaborate with senior management, external auditors, and counterparts in the business units to document conclusions.

  • Coordinate completion of Form 10-K and Form 10-Q from planning through final review and filing, including preparation of MD&A and various other disclosures.

  • Ensure compliance with XBRL reporting requirements, including review and approval of XBRL filings

  • Manage and maintain in-house SEC filing process, including administrative access to filing software.

  • Act as liaison with the external auditors,and manage completion of quarterly PBC deliverables.

  • Complete financial reporting requirements for SOX, and update and maintain Corporate process narratives.

  • Perform ad-hoc projects, including vendor and project financial analysis and other process-improvements initiatives.

  • Manage team of three, as well as indirect management/oversight of support personnel in other areas of the organization, including Corporate and business unit functions and executive-level management. Develop and train junior staff members, and address succession planning.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

Bachelor in Accounting and/or Finance (required).


  • CPA (required).

  • MBA (preferred).

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:


  • 10+ years progressive experience in accounting field (required).

  • 5+ years supervisory experience (required).

  • SEC reporting experience (required).

  • Combination of public accounting and/or industry experience (preferred).

  • Manufacturing/industry background (preferred).

  • Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SEC rules/regulations (required).

  • Proficiency with IFRS (preferred).

  • Effective oral and written communication skills (required).

  • ERP systems experience, preferably JD Edwards/Cognos (preferred).
