Position Overview

Oversee/supervise all facets of equipment division in your respective area by performing the following duties.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)


  • Maintain strong communication with all operational managers in your respective area to ensure that all equipment needs are met.

  • Attend local staff meetings as required to support operations effectively.

  • Work closely with all other Equipment Managers (Best Practice) to improve group purchasing, share safety ideas, reduce rental needs, and increase utilization.

  • Maintain cost control for all rolling stock equipment: oversee and authorize the purchase of parts, supplies, outside repairs, shop tools, etc.

  • Ensure all equipment repairs and preventive maintenance is completed effectively, efficiently, and on time.  Manage outside repairs for accurate work and billing.

  • Continually strive to maximize equipment and mechanic utilization.

  • Be visible in the field; inspect equipment on a regular basis at job sites, plants, and crushers to schedule equipment repairs prior to failure.

  • Ensure all shop related paperwork and CMMS Reports are completed accurately and on time (purchase orders, work orders, timecards, hour and mileage updates, etc.).

  • Assist the Equipment General Manager with annual capex and repair budgets.

  • Ensure all maintenance facilities and personal are in compliance with MSHA, OSHA, and DOT regulations at all times.

  • Identify and resolve regulatory, safety, personal, and equipment/operational problems in a timely and effective manner.

  • Enforce and manage all company safety rules, policies, and procedures. Conduct safety meetings participate in toolbox talks, promote Risk Assessments use, and document employee performance as necessary.

  • Assist with annual training programs.

  • Ensure that all maintenance facilities are neat, clean, and in a safe condition.

  • Conduct annual evaluations of direct reports timely and accurately.

  • Adhere to any and all state and federal regulations, if applicable, as set forth by the US Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA), or any other regulatory agency.

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.

  • Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.


  • Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.

  • Report to the assigned job site ready to begin work at the designated start time.

  • Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Safety and Health

Policies and Procedures Manual.


  • Strict adherence to Dolomite policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

  • Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required. 

Supervisory Responsibilities


  • Assist with Interviewing and hiring process as necessary.

  • Planning, assigning, and directing work.

  • Willingness to develop subordinates’ technical and leadership skills and make recommendations for new job opportunities when appropriate.

  • Effective management of employee performance through coaching, feedback (written and verbal), rewards, and discipline when necessary.

  • Appraising performance, including annual evaluations and new employee evaluations.

  • Addressing complaints and resolving problems in a timely manner.

  • Lead by example.

  • Ability to get work done through others using effective delegation, scheduling, and time management practices.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience


  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or five to seven years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Previous supervisory experience.

General Requirements


  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, contracts, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  The ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of organization.

  • Must have strong people skills, a proven track record of successful job and team management from start to finish; must have the ability to cultivate valuable customer/employee relationships; successfully manage multiple jobs simultaneously; and have a keen business sense. 

  • Strong communication skills both written and verbal, and computer skills.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements


  • Must possess and have working knowledge to complete necessary mathematical calculations.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to use a computer to communicate and analyze data.  This includes but is not limited to the use of Outlook, MS Office programs, construction software and web-based programs.

  • Be familiar with all roles, equipment, and tasks associated with the shops and have the ability and willingness to fill in on any role or task as necessary.

The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
