Job Description:

Barnes Healthcare Services is currently hiring a Cash Posting Clerk who is primarily responsible for posting accounts receivable data into the computer system. In addition, this person has the responsibility to verify prices on invoices with the price on the purchase order form and make sure that invoices are recorded and paid on a timely basis. This position requires the ability to think quickly in response to both customer requests and complaints, the Cash Posting Clerk will prepare invoices for payment including coding and computer entries; record and distribute receivables; apply cash to patient accounts; and record, verify and refund customers as necessary.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Office Machines and Data Entry


  • Efficiently use the computer and software appropriate for this position.

  • Efficiently operate all office machines appropriate for this position.

  • Use equipment in an ergonomically correct manner.

  • Fully understand and utilize the appropriate computer systems to input data and maintain computer files as needed.

Accounts Payable


  • Verify prices on the invoice with the price on the purchase order form. In the case of discrepancies, follow through to correction.

  • Prepare all invoices for payment, including coding and computer entries.

  • Ensure that accounts payable are verified, accurate, and processed, scheduling and releasing checks in a timely manner.

  • Record, verify, and refund customers as necessary.

Cash Posting


  • Record and distribute receivables.

  • Enter payments into the billing/computer system within 24 hours of receipt.

  • Apply cash to patient accounts/correct invoices and make adjustments or credit/debit memos as appropriate.

  • Create copies of checks or EOMB for file and prepare cash receipts for deposit.

Other Duties or Tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis


  • When necessary, provide assistance to others when workloads increase.

  • Take initiative in finding ways to contribute to the organization.

  • Be willingly involved in cross-training, when possible


  • High School Diploma and/or GED required.

  • Excellent phone and customer relation skills.

  • Two years of HME/DME knowledge; two years of billing experience in the medical field.

  • Ability to type 40 wpm, 10 key by touch.

  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
