is recruiting for a Law Enforcement Instructor to join our team!


Position Details


This role will be conveniently located at The Connecticut Police Academy (POSTC) in Meriden, CT.At times candidates may be asked to participate at a satellite training facility to include the EVOC field located in East Hartford.


This is a part time role, with aMonday - Friday schedule, hours range from 0700hr - 1730hrs.Please note: hours per week can not exceed 17.5 per week per job classification.


This position allows candidates to stay active in Law Enforcement, influence statewide training at the Basic Recruit and in-service levels.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)



In the Police Officer Standards and Training Council prepares and conducts courses of instruction for municipal police personnel.


EXAMPLES OF DUTIES



Instructs municipal police personnel in specific areas of specialization or expertise, i.e., penal code, civil liability, judicial decisions, firearms or other law enforcement courses; prepares course outlines and lesson plans; selects appropriate training materials; prepares, administers and corrects tests; maintains records of student's performance; evaluates and prepares reports on student's progress; may evaluate course effectiveness and recommend changes in course content to effect improvements.

This position is open to any candidate that has considerable knowledge of training law enforcement officers. This position will focus primarily on specific areas such as EVOC, Defensive tactics, firearms and EMR (EMSI) and use of force training for both municipal and state police.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY



Considerable knowledge of crime prevention and law enforcement principles, practices and procedures; considerable knowledge of principles and practices of adult education; knowledge of educational methods and techniques; considerable ability to prepare lesson plans and organize teaching materials to provide effective training; considerable ability in written and oral expression; considerable ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with trainees, instructors and others contacted in the work.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE



Three (3) years of full time employment in a law enforcement, criminal justice or related agency.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - SPECIAL EXPERIENCE



One (1) year of the General Experience must have been as a full time teacher or instructor in a law enforcement or related training program and be qualified to obtain a law enforcement instructor certification from the Police Officer Standards and Training Council.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



The preferred candidates will have:





  • Experience as or a willingness and ability to become an
    Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVCO) instructor;



  • Experience as an instructor or teacher;

  • Experience as or a willingness and ability to become a
    firearms instructor;

  • Experience as or a willingness and ability to become
    Defensive tactics instructor;

  • Experience as or a willingness and ability to become a use
    of force instructor;

  • Experience as or a willingness and ability to become an
    Emergency Medical Service Instructor (EMSI).
