Job Description:

VSE Corporation is seeking an AIRCRAFT MECHANIC III (Maintenance Controller/Safe for Flight) for our worksite in Norfolk, VA (Norfolk I)

SUMMARY: The Aircraft Mechanic III is responsible for ensuring that the people assigned to his/her crew complete their tasks safely and in full compliance with all technical data and procedures while maintaining quality and productivity standards. The Aircraft Mechanic III applies technical expertise throughout all aircraft maintenance and modification and leverages this expertise to solve complex technical issues.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·Leads a team in the performance of aircraft maintenance, inspections and scheduled / unscheduled maintenance.


  • Processes the technical experience to supervise subordinate mechanics and provide technical guidance on maintenance operations on the airframe being supported.

  • Maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures, structural components and engines of complex to extreme difficulty

  • Maintains and repairs aircraft components including, but not limited to, flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical complements, and applies technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems in determining equipment malfunction.

  • Applies technical expertise in restoring equipment condition and operation.

  • Applies professional technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technicalal data such as blueprints or Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) manuals.

  • Makes entries in aircraft log and records clearly annotating all maintenance work on the aircraft / aircraft components.

  • Provides guidance and technical expertise to lower level technicians throughout all aircraft modifications and / or maintenance efforts.

  • Promote a culture of safety by monitoring self and others to ensure all duties are performed within the guidelines as specified by VSE Corporation, customer and DoD requirements.


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

·High school diploma or equivalent

·Five (5) years of experience repairing engines, sheet metal, structural, hydraulic, electrical, power train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions.

·Work typically requires a thoroughly comprehensive knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting/repair procedures and replacement of components, a thorough knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modification and repair and the ability to determine functionality of non-complex electrical systems.

·Detailed knowledge of aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, cable tensiometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers, etc. is required.

·Experience and ability to provide technical support to structural/mechanical engineers and customers alike must possess excellent organizational skills in prioritizing workload to meet aircraft delivery schedule.

·Capable of performing, supervising, and inspecting the duties of Mechanic Is, IIs, and IIIs.

·Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance required for continued employment.

·Eligibility for (and ability to maintain) CAC and Special Access Badge

·Local training licenses and/or certification may be required.

·Read, write and understand the English language

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

·Valid State-issued driver’s license

·FAA Airframe and Powerplant certificate

·Current Secret Clearance

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Must be able to lift twenty-five (25) pounds unassisted.

  • Subject to continual loud noises.

  • Must be able to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and stand for prolonged periods of time, climb ladders and/or service stands, balance, Repetitive Motion, Eye/Hand Coordination, Fine Manipulation, Visual acuity must be a minimum of 20/40 corrected and must be able to distinguish color.

  • Normal or corrected hearing

  • Must be able to wear and breathe through a full-face respirator.

  • May be exposed to hazardous chemicals and requires use of all safety equipment.

  • Must be able to access all areas of the aircraft.

  • The selected applicant will be subject to a background check and drug testing.
