Job Description:

SiREM, a division of Geosyntec Consultants Inc., is seeking a Senior Scientist or Engineer to lead and grow our SiREM laboratory division in our Knoxville, TN location. We are seeking a dynamic individual with at least 10 years of management experience in the environmental testing and remediation industry and with the ability to lead and build a growing team to support our assessment and remediation service areas for groundwater/soil, sediment remediation, wastewater and process engineering solutions. The ideal candidate is sales-driven, innovative and will manage a dynamic professional laboratory staff and oversee a technically diverse portfolio of projects.


SiREM is a state-of-the-art environmental technology laboratory, with locations in the U.S. and Canada. SiREM provides a suite of unique, science-based products and services, focused on environmental remediation of chlorinated solvents and other recalcitrant chemicals. SiREM also develops products and testing services applied to a range of environmental challenges including air monitoring, wastewater treatment, passive sampling and SARS-CoV-2 surveillance testing. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaboration and mentoring are cornerstones of SiREM culture. You should expect to work closely with experienced professionals who will help integrate you into SiREM's culture. Some of the task-level or project management responsibilities you will be asked to do include:



  • Identifying and developing successful client relationships and new business development opportunities with environmental consultants, public and private clients at the local, regional and national level;

  • Providing entrepreneurial leadership and management of growing laboratory staff.

  • Grow a research and development practice to support new and existing business opportunities.

  • Management and mentoring of laboratory staff and managing subcontractors.

  • Project and task management, including planning, experimental design, and implementing laboratory projects, budgeting and budget management, adherence to schedule, quality, client satisfaction, and profitability.

  • Preparing for and participating in meetings with clients, regulatory personnel, and other parties.

  • Enhancing and growing our current practices in laboratory testing and developing empirical solutions for our client's toughest problems; to include multi

  • Ability to implement multi-disciplinary problem-solving using chemistry, physics, and biology

  • Managing projects of varying complexity and size.

  • Training: This position requires OSHA/MSHA health and safety, laboratory safety (including biosafety level 2) first aid, and CPR training and medical monitoring, paid for by the firm. We also offer professional development opportunities including technical conferences, in-house seminars, webinars, and mentoring, that allow our professionals to build the technical and business skills necessary to become successful leaders in SiREM's sell-manage-do culture.


  • Fieldwork: Occasional


  • Overnight travel: Up to 20%

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE



  • Bachelor's degree in environmental or chemical engineering, chemistry, geochemistry, experimental biological sciences. (required)

  • Advanced degree in the same. (preferred)

  • Professional recognition as applicable (PE, PG, Certified in a specialty, etc.) (preferred)

  • Project Management certification. (preferred)


SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS



  • At least 10 years of experience in environmental assessment and remediation industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)

  • Experience in multi-disciplinary problem-solving using chemistry, physics, and biology, including treatment technologies for wastewater, groundwater, soil, and other solid materials. (required)

  • Proven track record in business development and project management experience. (required)

  • Experience in Environmental Consulting Industry. (preferred)

  • Experience in an environmental laboratory setting. (preferred)

  • Effective oral and written communication skills. (required)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, basic statistics, and data visualization. (required)

  • Leadership training and team-building experience. (preferred)

  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple project assignments, meet strict deadlines, and travel to client facilities as needed. (required)

  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize disparate information from multiple technical fields to identify innovative solutions to problems. (preferred)

  • Knowledge of environmental consulting and major consulting firms with the ability to work confidentially and collaboratively with consultants. (preferred)

  • Experience with oil & gas, chemical and manufacturing industries, utilities (including coal-ash impoundments), landfills, Potentially Responsible Parties (PRP) Groups and/or attorneys. (preferred)

  • Valid U.S. driver's license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
