Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.




What You Can Expect and Schedule




The current opening for NICU is a 36hours per week position, requiring a 13-week commitment on Nights. Scheduled work days are Fridays and Saturdays with one additional weeknight that is variable.Based on your experience, you may be required to float to an area to meet hospital staffing needs; this includes but is not limited to Family Beginnings. This position consists of 1-2 weeks of orientation which includes hospital and unit-specific training. Most departments require 4 full shifts of unit-based training for the RN to practice independently.


Eskenazi Health is a Level 1 trauma and certified adult burn center with a level 3 NICU. Due to our high acuity, team members in this role can anticipate caring for and learning more about various populations in a fast-paced and dynamic environment. Here at Eskenazi Health, we strive to offer nurse to patient ratios that allow for safe and effective care that stem from Evidence-Based Practice. The Short-Term Assignment RN can anticipate the following:


  • Level 3 NICU - 1:3 ratio based on acuity and 33 private beds

  • Family Beginnings - Ratios and Beds Vary Per Area

    • Antenatal - 1:2 to 1:4 with 15 beds

    • L&D - 1:1 to 1:2 with 14 beds

    • OR - 2 OB specific ORs with 5 PACU beds

    • Postpartum - 1:4 to 1:8 (couplet care) with 20 beds

    • OB Triage - 6 beds







Am I Qualified?






  • Minimum of 18 months nursing experience as an RN in assigned area preferred

  • Active Indiana RN license

  • Current BLS certification

  • Current PALS certification
