Occupational Summary


Full-time administrator for Sanford Career Services Handshake database and Career Services office manager.




Work Performed




Serve as primary staff member responsible for managing Handshake at Sanford, the sole resource for student and employer information: (60%)


* Create customized forms and surveys to track student progress and get periodic employer feedback.
* Create reports from data in the Handshake system both independently and as requested by advising and employer relations staff and use reports to create recommendations for staff regarding student progress and employer needs.
* Provide regular updates to staff regarding trends observed from data in Handshake and make recommendations on issues such as student interest areas, student progress, or employer transition to Handshake.
* Collaborate with Employer Relations Director to build and maintain a process to enter or approve jobs and internships received directly from employers using the Handshake system.
* Collaborate with Employer Relations Director to steward existing employers with regular communications and advice on best use of Handshake.
* Complete timely responses and pro-active communications to employers to insure their successful utilization of our system.
* Promote events and announcements to students on the Handshake platform, including entering events and deadlines into the system.
* Manage student internship tracking process, including collecting evaluation forms from supervisors and students, submission of documents, documenting completion of interim and final tasks, and creating interim reports for program staff for student follow-up.
* Provide Handshake customer service to students, Career Services staff, and employers.
* Serve as primary contact with Handshake hosting company and with University Career Center Handshake administrators.
* Pursue continuous training on system features and new updates.
* Train student workers, staff, and students on the Handshake system.





Other important duties (40%)


* Provide back-up support for Employer Relations Director regarding employer communications.
* Advise drop-in students with routine questions regarding documents or processes.
* Maintain kiosk and tablet functionality to create and update resources for drop-in students and visitors and direct them to available resources or appropriate staff as needed.
* Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Minimum Qualifications
Education


Work requires an Associates in Computer Science or equivalent technical training, or non-technical bachelor's degree. Preference given to candidates with a bachelor's degree.




Experience

2 years data management, research or medical experience OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE. .

In addition, the successful candidate will possess the following qualities/attributes:
* Demonstrated customer service and communications skills to create positive interactions with a diverse range of customers in a fast-paced environment (students, staff, faculty, employers, and guests).
* Experience using databases and interest in internet research.
* Prefer experience with a career center management system such as Handshake, Simplicity, Grad Leaders or 12Twenty.
* Comfortable learning and explaining new computer skills.
* Eager to find solutions to identified problems and improve office processes.
* Ability to work as a member of a diverse team as well as function independently.
* At least one year experience in a university setting, preferably working with students.
* Prefer prior work with Duke financial, student or alumni data systems.
* General knowledge of or interest in public policy field is helpful.
