Job Description:


OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY


The Communications Specialist, Office of the President supports the Director of Communications in developing presidential messaging. A member of the Office of the President staff, the Communications Specialist is responsible for the timely and confidential drafting of presidential correspondence and speeches and talking points. For this is a writing-intensive position, the successful candidate will bring to this position a demonstrated record of delivering clear and cogent writing on very tight deadlines. This person should also be comfortable with intensive research and coordinating a wide-range projects covering diverse issues. The Communications Specialist reports to the Director of Communications.




WORK PERFORMED



  • Reporting to the Director of Communications, support the development of all written communications for the President.




  • As directed, draft and edit presidential speeches, talking points, and presentations.




  • Draft presidential correspondence and invitations, working in collaboration with the office staff and university constituencies.




  • Conduct thorough research as directed for major addresses and the development of university messaging.




  • Serve as project coordinator for speeches and public events, managing intake of background and helping to ensure that the president is well-prepared for events.




  • Consult and collaborate with the Director of Communications on messaging.




  • Assist the Director of Communications in developing and implementing a comprehensive social media plan for the President.



Skills: The candidate for this position must have keen attention to detail and organization and be able to express ideas clearly, concisely and in accurate grammatical written and verbal form. A high level of professionalism and accuracy is a must. While this position will have limited interaction with the president, the Communications Specialist will be responsible for writing projects that include personal and confidential information. Candidate must be able to successfully work independently and collaboratively in teams and exhibit professionalism, collegiality, courtesy and respect for others at all times.
Computer skills: Work requires proficiency in Microsoft Office. Wordpress web design and Emma newsletter experience preferred but not required. Minimum Qualifications


Education

Work requires communication and marketing skills normally acquired through a bachelor's degree in a related field.


Experience


Work generally requires one year related experience in advertising, marketing, media, promotions or public relations. OR ANY OTHER EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
