The candidate will work in the UPenn High-Throughput Screening Core (HTSC) in the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM). The primary mission of the core is to provide the PSOM community with high-throughput screening capabilities to identify genes or organic small molecule modulators of signaling pathways, cellular phenotypes, and protein function in models of human disease. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Core Directors to execute experiments that optimize and validate cell and biochemical assays in high-density formats (i.e. 384 well microtiter plates). Specific responsibilities will include moderately complex procedures in mammalian cell biology, and high-throughput genetic/chemical screening. The candidate will be required to operate and maintain automated laboratory robotic workstations related to high-throughput screening; prepare and manage libraries of siRNA, shRNA, cDNA, and small molecule libraries for high-throughput screening; and execute standard/routine analysis procedures and prepare preliminary reports of large data sets. The candidate will also work with the Directors to strategically develop new screening assays, screening platforms, libraries, or data analysis pipelines. Additional responsibilities will include maintaining articulate documentation of daily tasks and maintenance of the laboratory's databases and inventory (i.e. supplies, reagents, and equipment).
Responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
1. Operation of laboratory robotics for high-throughput screening
2. Execution of experiments to optimize and validate assays for high-throughput screening
3. Data analysis and preparation of preliminary reports for review by Directors
4. Maintenance of siRNA, shRNA, cDNA, and small molecule libraries
A highly motivated individual with a Bachelor's degree and 1-2 years of experience or equivalent combinations of education and experience. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, effective communication skills, the ability to problem-solve, work independently, and work in a team environment.
