Job Description Summary
The Assistant Dean, Intramural Practice and Extramural Partnerships will be responsible for the supervision of dentists and provide clinical direction for quality dental care in a timely, compassionate, cost effective manner to Penn Dental Family Practice (PDFP) patients.

Job Description

This role will oversee regulatory compliance, safety, and standards of care. The Assistant Dean will develop, maintain and implement formal clinic policies and procedures that will guide dentists and professional staff in the delivery of consistent standards of care. This position will be responsible for optimizing PDFP clinical productivity, optimizing the distribution of patients across PDFP providers and developing strategies to recruit patients to PDFP. This position has supervisory oversight of the PDFP providers in consult with the specialty specific Department Chairs and all PDFP staff.



This role will also act as overseer and resource advisor to the Dean and management of the School for student extramural programs. PDM offers students learning opportunities locally and globally that require program oversight, regulatory and contractual compliance, and rigorous review of curriculum to ensure they meet the highest standards of learning for our students.




  • Directly recruit and supervise the dentists and provide clinical direction to Practice Administrators and clinical outreach staff. Devise strategies and plans for excellent service and growth. Oversee regulatory compliance, safety and standards of care. Develop, maintain and implement formal clinic policies and procedures. - 35%




  • Guide dentists and professional staff to deliver consistent standards of care according to policies. Assure clinical practices are above reproach and of the highest quality. Evaluate the professional staff to insure performance goals related to production, clinical quality and regulatory compliance are met. - 10%




  • Participate in management meetings and annual planning processes to support the School's objectives and implementation of the strategic plan. Collaborate with the Practice Administrators and other clinic management to ensure smooth operation of clinic and programs including: staffing and patient visit ratios; scheduling; and cost- benefit programs. Advise on facilities and equipment purchases and repairs. - 10%




  • Chair a Dental Advisory Committee to enhance working relationships with referral sources and the University. Conduct quality assurance reviews each quarter. Assisting in the preparation of an operating budget for PDFP in conjunction with the Chief Financial Officer. Assist in the coordination and integration of the School's dental programs and services for the welfare of the patient and community. - 5%




  • Oversee and act as resource advisor to the Dean and management of the School for student extramural events. Provide program oversight, regulatory and contractual compliance, and rigorous review of extramural programs and events (both locally and globally). - 25%




  • Provide timely and impactful reporting on key metrics and financial results. Implement empirical based decision making methodologies as part of routine processes. - 5%




  • This position will teach Practice Management curriculum to students. - 5%




  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. - 5%






Qualifications


DDS or DMD required.


Current dental license to practice in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is required.


Minimum of 7-10 years of clinical practice experience required.
