Direct day-to-day operations of the Chair's office, including travel, scheduling, drafting correspondence, representing the Department in meetings and committees and delegating tasks to direct reports as appropriate. Direct all aspects of faculty affairs for a basic science department with 21 primary tenure-track appointments Serve as the primary liaison with PSOM Faculty Affairs and the Office of the Provost in direction of all departmental faculty administration, managing recruitment, faculty promotions, reappointments and all related actions. Provide oversight and support of faculty affairs-related projects of newly-formed Vice Chair for Faculty Development & Affairs role within the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology. Manage special/ad-hoc projects as assigned by the Chair or in conjunction with administrative leadership. Provide oversight of content of Departmental web site. Provide oversight, mentorship and supervision of the Department administrative support pool presently totaling 2 staff members. Assist Director of Fiscal Operations with standardizing office operations across the department. Assist Business Office with human resources functions surrounding international appointments. Assist with selection of technology for departmental Faceboard, digital signage displays and departmental conference room displays. Serve as point person and approver for complex meeting room scheduling, conveying Facilities information/changes to CDB faculty and staff, following up regarding lab compliance requests and maintenance matters. Manage four ongoing lecture series (Distinguished, Liu, Pepe and Williams) for the department and other special events as needed. Plan departmental events (includes budget oversight, vendor and venue selection and resource planning) for the biennial retreat, four annual lectureship series, biannual trainee happy hours and biennial departmental picnic. Implement tools to aid administrative oversight in line with academic and research missions of the Department. Manage confidential and sensitive information with discretion.
Bachelor's Degree and 5-7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
