Job Summary
As Sr. Firmware Engineer , reporting to Manager, Firmware Engineering, you will be a member of a small team specializing in Battery Management System (BMS) firmware and software. In this dynamic environment, you will be called on to do many things related to development of Vertiv's Energy Storage solutions.

The Energy Storage USA team is responsible global platform innovation and development and support for Vertiv's Energy Storage products for sale worldwide.

Responsibilities :

  • Participate as a key resource in the design and implementation of the battery management system (BMS), including embedded Linux systems to manage lithium ion batteries and integrate them into Vertiv's line of telecom and UPS products.
  • Full lifecycle software application development: Design, programming, debugging, peer review, unit testing, performance tuning, integration.
  • Assist in development of and adherence to Vertiv product development processes and release standards, especially as related to functional safety specification and verification according to appropriate standards.
  • Assist in derivation of requirements. Map product-level requirements to software design elements.
  • Specification development skills, including state machine diagramming for new products and projects.
  • Requirements analysis: Requirements gathering, use-case analysis, device and application prototyping, customer/customer-liaison engagement.
  • Documentation: high-level design documentation, program commentary, user guides for service and troubleshooting.
  • Product testing: Unit testing, bench testing, system integration testing, and field test support.
  • Leadership: Effective team member and/or lead engineer, consistent positive attitude, creativity.
  • Hardware development support: Software support for hardware development and testing.
  • Other duties and activities as assigned.

Requirements :

  • Bachelor's Degree with strong emphasis on software: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering preferred. Master's degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years' post-Bachelor's experience as a Firmware Engineer.
  • Embedded Linux application and kernel-level experience required.
  • Microcontroller RTOS/"bare metal" experience required.
  • Experience with low-level hardware integration required.
  • Experience with "sensor-area network" communications protocols such as CANbus, I2C, and SPI required.
  • Agile code development experience and functional safety-related process experience in developing firmware required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Must be able to work around and with high voltage.
