Job Description:

The Scripps’ National Networks (ION, Katz and Newsy) provides absorbing entertainment and objective, intelligent news as we use our own distribution platforms to serve this unduplicated national audience. We meet the audience where it is with the programs it wants.

Scripps National Networks is looking for a responsible for the creation, editing, and quality control of closed caption materials for broadcast and digital video. 

What you will do:


  • Create, edit, QC and insert all closed caption files for various pre-recorded materials including TV programs, educational content, DVD, feature films, promotional content, etc.


  • Maintain closed captioning quality standards for accuracy and speed.


  • Spell checks and proofread all transcripts prior to insertion.


  • Ensure proper screen placement of captions as per FCC regulations.


What you will bring:

Education & Experience/Certifications


  • College degree or equivalent work experience preferred

  • 2-3 years experience in closed captioning for broadcast/cable TV

Skills & Abilities


  • Knowledge of closed captioning regulations and best practices.

  • Must be highly organized with sharp visual and auditory focus and great attention to detail.

  • Must have a good sense of team player principles and clear and concise communication skills.

  • Excellent spelling/vocabulary and strong memory-recall ability.

  • Punctual, dependable, flexible and willingness to adapt to last-minute changes to programming in an industry that operates 24/7/365.

  • General knowledge of digital compression formats/techniques
