JOB SUMMARY



The Department of Student Activities (DSA) at the University of Connecticut announces the opening of a full-time Jumpstart Program Coordinator.  This is a collaboration between the Jumpstart Program (AmeriCorps) and UConn. This position reports to the Associate Director for Student Activities/Director of Community Outreach Programs. 


Student Activities offers a diverse portfolio of educational, social, and recreational programs for the entire campus.  The related programs and services reach from the classroom and residence halls to the sidelines and beyond and engage students with unique programs and initiatives defined by their quality, creativity, and effectiveness. Student Activities staff are a progressive team of individuals, dedicated to the profession, prideful of our university, and committed to excellence.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



This position will be responsible for coordinating all aspects of the University's Jumpstart program including, but not limited to: provide oversight of programmatic aspects and student leaders associated with the Jumpstart Program; collect, review, and maintain all records and reports related to program participants; recruit, hire, train, support, and evaluate program student participants; advise and support program participants in their completion of AmeriCorps requirements involving regular monitoring/approving progress of hours and meeting with students to develop a plan of completion; facilitate a comprehensive Jumpstart training series for all participants,; build and manage off-campus program partner relationships and support timely program partner data collection; recruit outside partners as needed and communicate with teachers concerning programmatic support and areas of collaboration; manage site budget including submission of purchase requests and PER/in-kind reports; monitor inventory systems; assist in the development of the yearly budget through the yearly site application process; plan and support off-campus special events to engage one-time participants and develop seasonal off-campus partner relationships; participate as a Learning Partner in an Alternative Break Program; provide on-site supervision of events/programs; responsible for providing, supporting and participating in programs, services, and initiatives focusing on anti-racism, social justice and the fostering of a campus community that is more diverse, equitable, and inclusive to all; identify, recommend, and implement improvements related to policies, procedures and operations of programs and services in the business office; assist in the collection and analysis of program evaluation/assessment data and the proposal of program/service improvement recommendations; serve on University/Department committees and attend Department staff meetings as required; assist and/or be responsible for assigned special projects, programs, or services, which may be on-going or short-term.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS



  • Bachelor's degree in related education field AND four years of related experience with service-related programs OR equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate information effectively.

  • Excellent leadership, organizational and programming skills.

  • Experience advising and/or supervising college students.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management.

  • Articulated commitment to, demonstrated understanding of and/or experience working with diverse populations.

  • Willingness and ability to work nights and weekends.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Student Counseling or other related field

  • Demonstrated experience with programs and services in the field of early child education or education

  • Experience managing volunteers

  • Experience and/or ability to build relationship with community and campus partners

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve issues related to coordination and supervision of community services.

  • Strong interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated experience integrating principles of diversity and inclusion into all aspects of program management.

  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment on multiple tasks

  • Experience/ability to conduct program evaluations and assessments.

  • Familiarity with relevant state and local policies, procedures, regulations and laws pertaining to the assignees student group(s).


APPOINTMENT TERMS



Full time, 35-hour work- week.  Anticipated salary: $52,096 with excellent benefits.
