Job Description:

Principal Member of Technical Staff falls under the Network Infrastructure Group in the Network Chief Technology organization. This position requires ideal candidate to possess and demonstrate deep knowledge and understanding of Layer2 & Layer3 network routing & switching architectures, SDN/NFV platform architecture and development, data modeling, and latest industry trends and developments in virtualized computing.

Key Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop AT&T Cloud Infrastructure tactical and strategic solutions to host critical business services using industry standards best practices. 
  • Lead cross-functional teams - architects, designers, certification, operations, integration, planning, site-engineering and automation -  in DevOps mode to present scalable, resilient, repeatable, and cost-effective designs to address complex networking challenges.
  • Model network configuration and operational data in a platform neutral structure (JSON and/or YAML)
  • Use industry trends in SDN/NFV network automation, programming and database modeling to develop zero-touch provisioning and automation echo-system.
  • Perform new technology validation and prototyping of merchant silicon chip-set capabilities, disaggregated network hardware, Network Operating Systems (NOS), physical and virtual compute infrastructure components in a proof of concept (POC) environment.
  • Deploy and manage virtualization environment based on Linux/KVM to host virtual networking function (VNFs).
  • Represent the group internally across the company to provide functional and technical leadership and externally to manage vendors.
  • Collaborate with all project stakeholders, and development teams; define complex, esoteric and exigent requirements and solutions.
  • Excellent communication and presentations skills. Ability to work well with team members at various levels.
  • Performs/assist with other tasks or projects as assigned by Supervisor.

 


Education

Candidate shall have a Master’s degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering/Computer Science from an accredited university with minimum of 6 years of relevant experience, or a  Bachelor's degree with minimum of  8 years of relevant experience.

Experience

  • Solid hands-on experience of routing and switching protocols and network services - BGP, ISIS, OSPF, MPLS, L3VPN, L2VPN, Traffic Engineering, IP Multicast, QoS, Security, VPN, eVPN, VX-LAN, IPv4, IPv6, L2 Policing, DNS, and Load Balancer
  • Network and/or Cloud certifications or experience - CCIE/JNCIE/AWS/Azure.
  • Hands-on experience in network programmability and device management skillsets in Software Defined Networking (SDN) - REST APIs, NETCONF, YANG, JSON, and XML.
  • Hands-on experience of network configuration management and automation tools using Puppet, Chef, or Ansible.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience of programming physical and virtual traffic generators, network diagnostic and analyzer tools – Agilent, Spirent, Ostinato, TRex etc.
  • Hands-on experience of virtualization and container-based technologies (Hypervisors, Kubernetes, VM, VNF, Dockers, Jenkins) technologies.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of physical and logical compute components - NICs, NUMA, CPUs, vCPUs, veth, Optics, and cabling (AOC, and DAC for high-speed interconnects).
  • Strong domain knowledge and/or experience of virtual machine (VM) deployment in private and public cloud environments – Azure & AWS
  • Strong knowledge of industry trends in disaggregated hardware, Network Operating Systems, and virtualization.
  • Deep knowledge of information security principles and practices.
  • Ability to script/program – C++/Python/Perl.
