Position Overview

The General Mills-Great Falls plant operates 24 hours per day 7 days per week. Changes in volume and production requirements can result in changes in work schedule and additional overtime. Maintenance Mechanics must be willing to work any shift including nights and weekends.

The pay for a Maintenance Mechanic starts at $20.93 per hour with annual pay increases up to $22.03 per hour. General Mills offers shift differential payment for those working off-shift and overtime pay at time and a half and double time. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package including Medical, dental and vision insurance plan and 401(k).

Main Responsibilities

In this role, you will:


  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment

  • Maintain, install, repair, and replace industrial processing and packaging machinery, work tools and equipment

  • Provide technical support and plant leadership for equipment troubleshooting and equipment modifications

  • Perform both uptime and down time preventative maintenance in adherence to the master PM schedule

  • Perform corrective maintenance work orders

  • Repair and maintain building utilities

  • Have the ability to learn and perform minor machining and welding tasks

  • Participate in Continuous Improvement initiatives in order to increase platform performance

  • Assist with training new employees as needed

  • Attend meetings and trainings as required

  • Perform additional related tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Must be 18 years of age or older

  • Must have the ongoing right to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Working knowledge of PLCs, HVAC systems, pneumatic and hydraulic systems

  • Current Maintenance Experience - Ability to maintain and repair manufacturing equipment

  • Mechanical, math, troubleshooting and problem-solving and basic computer skills

  • Effective written and oral communication skills

  • Proficiency in basic computer skills

  • Must be able to lift, move, push, pull 50 lbs. on a regular basis

  • Must be able to perform physical tasks for extended periods of time, including standing, walking, climbing, bending, squatting, pushing, pulling and twisting over surfaces

  • Willing and able to work any shift schedule, including nights and weekends, daily overtime or overtime outside of your regular scheduled hours as required (more than 40 hours per week and on-call shifts)

  • Ability to wear protective clothing and equipment such as safety shoes, face masks, safety glasses, hearing protection, hard hat/bump cap, hair/beard net and gloves when required

  • Ability to work in hot, cold, noisy, dusty, wet environmental working conditions

  • Ability to climb and/or work at heights while utilizing stairs, ladders, personnel lifts, or platforms

  • Ability to work with allergens that might be present in a food environment

  • Ability to work around industrial high-speed moving machinery

  • Willing and able to adhere to all grooming requirements necessary for a food manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications:


  • 2 years of experience in a manufacturing maintenance environment preferred, not required

  • Past Maintenance work experience

  • Demonstrated leadership ability

  • Fabrication and Welding experience
