Overview:

Reporting to the Production Manager, the Microelectronic Technician 3 will perform assembly and testing among other manufacturing operations relating to specific portions of program and product deliverables for the manufacturing department. Under supervision, the Microelectronic Technician 3 position will support the engineering and research group, assembly and development activities. This position will involve assembly and testing of complex electro-optic assemblies, optical modules and sub modules containing optical and fiber optic based components with guidance from principle engineers and scientists. Primary job duties will include developing and setting up work areas to assemble and test the optical module assemblies. Additional duties may include setting up experiments and optical test equipment, conducting tests, and recording data. The position may involve assembly and alignment of electronic, mechanical, and/or electro-mechanical and opto-mechanical subassemblies, machining/fabricating parts. The Microelectronic Technician 3 must be able to accurately develop and document these and other work processes. Applications may include analog, digital and/or video type circuits and logic systems. Guidance will be readily available from technical staff.

The Microelectronic Technician 3 will report directly to the Production Manager. This position provides an exciting technical opportunity in a high-growth, strategically important business for NGSS. They must have a record of a collaborative approach with peers/peer organizations. Specifically, the details of the position are the following

Responsibilities:

• Complete work order assignments in a timely fashion with minimal errors
• Complete associated manufacturing paperwork, documentation and records in accurate and organized manner
• Collaborate with quality control, material control and other staff
• Ensure work cell area and tooling is in order and well maintained
• Set up and test complete units and subassemblies under operational conditions
• Use a variety of metrology and inspection tools to test and inspect optical components for accuracy and quality
• Read and understand blueprints and technical drawings
• Take ownership of the quality and completion of assigned tasks in a timely manner
• Maintain clean and organized work area
• Provide support to the Devens, MA facility as needed
• Handle and inspect very fragile, very expensive objects without damaging them



Qualifications:




Basic Qualifications:

• Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years of related experience, or 6+ years of related experience or related military experience
• Experience with electro-mechanical, electro-optic or optical and/or fiber optic based systems and components including optical fusion splicing systems
• Familiarity with handling critical optical components and the use of optical test equipment and microscopes is required
• Understanding or formal training in electrical/electronic principles
• Experience in soldering electronic assemblies and cable and harness assemblies
• Ability to work well as part of an integrated team including technicians, engineers, principal level engineers/scientists along with internal and external customers
• Experience using electronic lab equipment such as; DVM's, power meters, power supplies and oscilloscopes
• Experience with basic machine tool operation and building or modifying equipment used in testing precision optics
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast paced, highly technical work environment
• Responsible self-starter and team player with manufacturing or service experience
• Great problem solving skills
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• High level of proficiency in MS Word and Excel; basic experience with PowerPoint
• U.S. Citizenship is a requirement for employment
• Occasional domestic/international travel up to 10% of the time
• Active Top Secret Security Clearance
Preferred Qualifications:

• Associates Degree in optics, fiber optics or laser electro optics technology and 4+ years of experience with optical and fiber optic systems and components
• Small part soldering and rework experience
• Ability to lay out own work
• Basic knowledge of optic and electrical test equipment
• J-STD 001 soldering certification
• IPC-620 cable and wiring certification
Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand and/or sit for long periods of time
• Ability to work with hand tools
• Ability to use oscilloscope, VOM, DVM, signal generators, power meters, and similar test apparatus
