The Executive Director of Corporate Marketing oversees marketing of the OCLC Brand and OCLC services through all marketing channels by developing and executing enterprise-level marketing strategies and programs.  This role provides the primary leadership and strategic oversight for OCLC’s corporate marketing, marketing communications, enterprise branding, publications, digital marketing, events, social media and media relations activities.

This position reports to the Vice President of Purpose, People and Place. The Executive Director of Corporate Marketing also serves as a key advisor to OCLC’s executive team on marketing and marketing communications strategies and works with Board leadership to create board-level messaging for governance events, customer meetings and other forums.

Responsibilities


  • Leads a team of professionals responsible for branding and creative, marketing communications, media relations, content development, conferences and events, social and digital marketing, web marketing and corporate websites, sales enablement and product marketing support, and global integration

  • Develops and executes OCLC marketing strategy and tactics, including the development of key messages, positioning and promotional campaigns.

  • Creates marketing programs that leverage the OCLC brand and message to all key constituents – libraries, customers/members and potential customers, technology industry and press, general and local press, industry analysts, university and community constituents, partners and governance groups.  Creative development and integration of the CEO brand as part of the larger OCLC brand identity.

  • Manages the ongoing design and development of the OCLC websites.

  • Creates and executes digital marketing programs leveraging interactive media and other digital marketing channels

  • Corporate marketing communications – including digital marketing, advertising, content development, annual reports, editorial calendar, etc.  

  • Works with the Global Marketing team to ensure marketing tools are adapted for global initiatives.

  • Creates, implements and maintains a consistent brand image and architecture across all services and programs and communications vehicles.

  • Oversees the OCLC conference and events strategies and platforms including event logistics, promotions and measurement in support of sales goals, product objectives and OCLC research initiatives.

  • Supports integrated marketing programs that elevate the rollout and on-going development of key services and new initiatives.

  • Manages relationships with external suppliers, including advertising, web, electronic and print design firms, printers, etc.

  • Develops, manages, and closely tracks marketing and event budgets. Establish measurements to evaluate and prioritize corporate marketing programs and materials.

  • Keeps abreast of current and emerging market/industry trends to ensure OCLC messages and marketing efforts are aligned with current market conditions and user needs.

  • Manages, assesses and develops a team of more than 20 multi-skilled marketing professionals

Qualifications


  • BS degree required; MBA or other graduate level preferred

  • 7-10 years of director-level experience in general marketing, corporate marketing, marketing communications

  • Experience in technology or information management companies with a global footprint

  • Proven experience in building integrated marketing programs in a business to business environment that includes advertising, direct marketing, digital marketing, web development and channel marketing.

  • Experience managing marketing and design professionals and agencies.

  • Exceptional writing skills with the ability to do both creative and business writing for varied audiences including customers, senior executives, board members and internal staff.

  • Product marketing experience or exposure preferred due to the close alignment between enterprise-level messages and line of business strategies.

  • Bias toward urgency and getting things done. Balanced with a thoughtful approach and recognition of collaboration at OCLC.

  • A sense of humor balanced with executive presence, diplomacy, and the ability to function in a high expectation environment.

  • Capacity to manage and drive multiple projects successfully along with the ability to adapt to changing circumstances with resilience and a positive response.

  • Ability to manage a team of folks with a range of skill sets and styles from the highly creative to the highly analytical.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and proven ability to work with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

  • Proven ability to set strategic direction, create comprehensive, integrated marketing programs and monitor progress.

  • Experience with sales programs in a business to business environment.

  • Action and results orientation. Ability to quickly identify and react to problems and potential opportunities.

  • Understanding of information and technology issues and market trends; technology services (e.g. data, software, systems) marketing experience is preferred.

  • Ability to interact with product management, sales, membership and other business groups to champion projects throughout the organization.

  • Excellent visual and verbal communication skills.
