Strategic Sourcing Manager

OVERVIEW

The Supply Chain team is looking for motivated professionals to facilitate the distribution of our great products to customers and consumers. These personnel can analyze production metrics against market needs in Supply & Demand Planning, focus on product transportation through Logistics, procure goods and services, or ensure the shelves of your local grocery store are stocked by Direct Store Delivery.

The Strategic Sourcing Manager is responsible for the strategic procurement of various categories for Smithfield Foods. This role will partner with cross functional stakeholders and suppliers to develop category strategies that deliver value for money, ensure supply chain continuity, measurable cost efficiencies, innovation and world class sourcing support to the organization. This role will leverage procurement expertise, risk management and relationship management skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Utilizes strategic sourcing methodology to develop category strategies, source, negotiate contracts and manage suppliers to deliver total lowest cost materials, ensure speed to market, value creation and mitigate the supply risks. Intimately understands the category markets and cost drivers and develops annual budgets for the Region.

  • Collaborate with other Smithfield operating groups on synergies to drive optimal value to the organization

  • Proactively works with suppliers to ensure the delivery of continuous improvement and technology which ultimately leads to competitive advantage and working capital reduction opportunities.

  • Serves as the primary point of contact for cross-functional partners across the organization, relative to sourcing activity: Quality, Innovation, Packaging, Productivity, Business Management, Finance, Product Supply and Procurement Operational Team.

  • Work closely with operations and tactical purchasing teams to identify cost reduction programs.

  • Increase revenue for supported business by leading the sourcing of innovative packaging.

  • Work together with Quality Assurance and Regulatory to ensure all packaging is in compliance with all requirements.

  • Manage cost model strategies currently in place with key suppliers.


Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supervision of Strategic Sourcing Analysts.

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.


PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience acting as a lead by providing training, guidance or mentoring to less experienced staff or managing processes and projects, required.

  • Progressive experience utilizing strategic sourcing methodology, required.

  • Experience with eSourcing tools.

  • Excellent PC skills: MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), SAP.

  • Identify and develop a supply base.

  • Ability to demonstrate proven results with contract reading, writing and negotiation.

  • Experience with "Strategic Sourcing Techniques" such as managing value stream, lean concepts, contractual alternatives, and buying theories.

  • Strong project management skills in support of cross functional team activities.

  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.

  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

  • Must be willing to travel a minimum of 25%


EDUCATION
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university and 7+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.
