Sr Director, Hospital Svcs at Vitalant

Job Description:

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Under minimal direction, this position is responsible for managing and coordinating hospital services activities, overseeing the function to assure the team culture supports the procedures and systems which meets the Vitalant customer promise while maintaining Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) regulations are followed for the department including SOPs, training, and competency, and error management.    Assists with the development and implementation of organizational strategies to achieve core corporate goals aligning with the strategic initiatives of the organization. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations.  Brings compliance issues to the attention of management.

Assures quality customer service to all customers.

Provides effective leadership to achieve high levels of service and product quality, financial results, and other criteria in accordance with policies, goals, and objectives.

Hires, supervises, trains and evaluates performance of assigned personnel. Identifies and effectively resolves personnel issues.

Ensures the department functions in compliance with all regulatory standards and according to defined organizational policies and procedures, including deviation management and effective correction action always.

Ensures the quality of materials and equipment used to meet quality assurance standards. Ensures staff compliance with maintenance, care, and handling of equipment, supplies, and facilities.

In partnership with inventory management, ensures the business unit’s site inventories are adequate to fulfill customer orders. Ensures orders are filled and delivered to customers, both internal and external. Interfaces with customers to resolve service, supply, and billing issues. 

Collaborates with client sales and FP&A to provide the analysis and forecasting for all customers. Ensures product waste is minimized.

Collaborates with department staff and other functional departments to continually seek strategies to improve efficiencies, working conditions, customer satisfaction, and resolve conflicts.

Defines and exemplifies department expectations for effective communications with internal and external staff/customers to facilitate growth, strengthen culture and ensure awareness of the changing staff/customers’ needs.

Represents the business unit in enterprise functional council meetings, projects and initiatives.

Participates in the annual budget preparation and ensures adherence to approved department budget.

Assists in formulating and implementing strategy for short and long range strategic planning and goal setting.  Reviews performance against operating plans and standards.  Takes corrective action when necessary to ensure achievement of operational plans

Remains abreast of changes and developments in the blood banking industry related to regulations and standards and provides direction to implement required changes. Establishes and maintains a network of professional relationships.

Collaborates on the development of new or revised policies and procedures as required to assure timely delivery of quality products.

Manages projects across multiple operating units.  This includes initial evaluation, cost benefit analysis/financial impact, resources managements, implementation and outcome review of short and long term projects. 

Collaborates with department staff and other departments to research, identify, and evaluate new products, devices, special research projects and methodologies to improve efficiencies, working conditions, and customer experience.  

Performs all other duties, at the discretion of management, as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge/Education

Bachelor’s degree required

Knowledge of inventory management and principles and computer inventory control systems required

Knowledge of blood center products required

Licenses/Certifications

None.

Experience

Eight years of related experience required. To include: 

•Five years supervisory experience.

Skills/Abilities

Must possess the skills and abilities to successfully perform all assigned duties and responsibilities. 

Must be able to maintain confidentiality.

Must have analytical, statistical, personal organization, and problem-solving skills. 

Able to organize, prioritize, and execute a variable workload and multiple priorities.

Effective oral and written business communication skills.

Must have a participative management style, strong team development, coaching skills, and the ability to lead and motivate senior and executive-level managers.

Ability to work in a team environment and participate as an active member of management.

Must have proficient computer skills.

Ability to travel (25+%).
