Job Title          -       Editor, Surgery Journals
Organisation   -       Medicine and Life Sciences Journals
Location          -       Philadelphia (preferred) or New York

We are currently seeking an Editor with experience in managing journals from a publishing perspective to join our surgery portfolio within the Medicine & Life Sciences (MLS) Journals group. The portfolio includes an interesting collection of journals utilizing a broad range of market opportunities in terms of business models (OA and hybrid), ownership models (proprietary and society-owned), brands (Springer, BMC) and scope (broad flagship journals to niche titles).

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Overseeing a portfolio of academic journals in clinical medicine with focus on surgical fields


• Developing and implementing strategies to meet market needs and business opportunities both at the portfolio and journal level


• Strategic management of existing journals in order to improve impact, visibility and usage


• Building and managing relationships with editors, authors,  learned societies, and the medical/surgical community at large


• Preparing and leading journal acquisitions and new launches


• Preparing, negotiating and executing publishing contracts


• Results-oriented cooperation with marketing, production and other internal departments

REQUIRED BACKGROUND:

• Advanced degree in medicine, sciences, or a related field


• Experience in working with academics in an international environment


• Positive and proactive approach to problem solving, taking ownership to drive and complete tasks


• Strong organizational skills, including proven ability to consistently meet deadlines


• Excellent communication and influencing skills


• Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues at all levels and as part of a team


• Prepared to travel frequently

The position is offered on a full-time basis and will be located in either our Philadelphia or New York office.
