Job Description:

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for component production, labeling, record review, quarantine, training, and high complexity testing.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Performs all assigned duties in compliance with internal SOPs and external regulations. Is responsible for bringing compliance issues to the attention of management.

  • Assures quality customer service to all customers.

  • Maintains accurate records and documentation.

  • Assists with training.

  • Performs record review as assigned.

  • Performs moderate complexity testing (e.g. CMV testing, Hgb S testing and operation of a cell counter).

  • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment. Notifies appropriate personnel if additional service is needed.

  • Performs quarantine as required.

  • Assists in reconciliation of reports.

  • Performs high complexity testing (e.g., antigen screens, antibody ID, and cross match).

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge/Education


  • Associate’s degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technology required.

  • MLT required (or must pass test within 6 months) or CLIA equivalent required.

Licenses/ Certifications


  • MLT required (or must pass test within 6 months) or CLIA equivalent required.

  • State license, as required by regulations, required.

Skills/Abilities


  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Must be detail oriented and possess strong communication, organization, analytical, and decision making skills and be able to comprehend and apply clinical laboratory procedures and theory.

  • Must be able to maintain donor, patient and employee confidentiality.

  • Must possess basic keyboarding skills and the ability to handle and operate laboratory equipment.

  • Must be able to work flexible shifts and overtime when necessary.
