The Senior Buyer position is responsible for managing the procurement of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) and excipients in support of all global R&D activity. Responsibilities include the creation and management of raw material information in SAP, issuing purchase orders and tracking material and information requests for the R&D group. Additional responsibilities include front line relationship management with R&D and excipient suppliers supporting R&D activity, sourcing for new projects as requested, identification of potential alternate sourcing for the new products based on price reduction strategies, any potential compliance issues, leading supplier evaluations, and leveraging market intelligence.

Essential Functions:


  • Manage all requests from the R&D group for their current and future project. Procurement of API, excipients, and search for possible suppliers for their new projects. Tracking delivery of materials and follow through on overdue shipments as well as FDA and US Customs holds.


  • Participate in sourcing strategies and alternatives for new sources of R&D supply of the API to manage risk, reduce cost, and improve service levels and quality.


  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with API suppliers, and adheres to purchasing practices and policies to ensure honest, fair and ethical relationships with our suppliers.


  • Participates in various cross-functional projects or initiatives.


  • Create and maintain part numbers for raw materials utilized in R&D activities.


  • Negotiates pricing and contracts with suppliers to obtain the lowest total cost and best outcome for Impax.

Education:


  • Bachelors Degree (BA/BS):  Business, operations, engineering, science (Chemistry preferred) Required


  • Master Degree (MS/MA):  Business, operations or chemistry preferred - Preferred

Experience:


  • 8 years or more in Exp. in the area of API and excipient procurement. Significant Management required in strategic sourcing and procurement in the pharmaceutical Industry is required.
